Kandi, Benin
Kandi is a town, arrondissement and commune in the Alibori Department of eastern Benin. Originally a market town, Kandi is now primarily a farming centre. It lies on the nation's main north-south highway, from Cotonou and north of Porto-Novo. The town is the capital of the department of Alibori. The commune covers an area of and as of 2013 had a population of 177,683 people. The town itself had a population of 27,227 in 2002. History Kandi was founded by the Bariba Kingdom, an offshoot of the Borgu Confederation. The surrounded villages are Bariba people in south and west, and the Mokole Yoruba in the north, who fled the wars of the foundation of the Oyo Empire. The surrounding countryside is Bariba. Yoruba People
The Yoruba people (, , ) are a West African ethnic group that mainly inhabit parts of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo. Köppen Climate Classification
The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Tropical savanna climate or tropical wet and dry climate is a tropical climate sub-type that corresponds to the Köppen climate classification categories ''Aw'' (for a dry winter) and ''As'' (for a dry summer). Ségbana
Ségbana is a town, arrondissement and commune located in the Alibori Department of Benin. The commune covers an area of 4471 square kilometres and as of 2013 had a population of 89,268 people. Geography The commune of Ségbana is located 722 kilometres from Cotonou and lies on the Niger River. Communally it is bounded to the north by Malanville, south by Kalalé, west by Kandi and Gogounou and east by Nigeria. History With the Séro Kpéra camp in Parakou, the civil prison of Ségbana was, during the 1980s under the regime of President Mathieu Kérékou, a prison establishment specially assigned to the detention of political prisoners, sometimes presented as a place of torture, but this point is not confirmed by the filmed testimonies of former prisoners. Banikoara is a town, Arrondissements of Benin, arrondissement and Communes of Benin, commune located in the Alibori Department of Benin. It lies 69 kilometers west of Kandi, Benin, Kandi at the heart of the most productive cotton-growing region in Benin. Its name is a Europeanized version of a Bariba language, Bariba phrase meaning "Bani's town," and honors its founder, Bani Gansé.
