KHOJ (AM)
KHOJ is a radio station broadcasting out of St. Charles, Missouri with a Catholic format. It broadcasts on AM frequency 1460 kHz and is part of the Covenant Network. KHOJ's studios are located on Hampton Avenue in St. Louis, while its transmitter is located north of St. Charles. History KIRL went on the air in 1968, the successor to KADY, which had previously operated on the frequency from 1958 to 1965 (and built the transmitter site used by KHOJ today). It was owned by Contemporary Media, Inc. In 1979, Contemporary Media sold KIRL to the Bronco Broadcasting Company. Bronco relaunched KIRL as a gospel music station for the African American community. Crestwood is a city in south St. Louis County, Missouri, United States, part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area known as Greater St. Louis. The population was 11,912 at the 2010 census. The Covenant Network is a network of Catholic radio stations in the Midwestern United States. Covenant maintains 15 full-power radio stations and a further 25 dependent translators in Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. WRYT is a radio station broadcasting out of Edwardsville, Illinois with a Catholic format. It broadcasts on AM frequency 1080 kHz and is part of the Covenant Network. Because WRYT shares the same frequency as " clear channel" station KRLD in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, the station broadcast during the daytime hours only until April 9, 2014. KADY (Missouri)
KADY was a commercial daytime-only radio station that was licensed to St. Charles, Missouri, and served Greater St. Louis. It broadcast on from April 3, 1958, to January 20, 1965. History KADY signed on at 1 p.m. on April 3, 1958. The station broadcast with 5,000 watts during the day from a tower along State Highway 94 in Boschertown. Within three months of signing on, William R. Cady, Jr., an advertising executive, bought out majority shareholder Harman Moseley. The remaining shares were owned by Jack Chenoweth, the chief engineer at KETC television, and the Schnatmeier family. KADY quickly expanded to FM. In May 1959, it filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission to build a new FM radio station in St. Louis. Zella Jackson Price (born c. 1940) is an American gospel music, gospel singer whose career has spanned 50 years. She performed with many St. Louis-based entertainers and earned national recognition, performing in her own show at Carnegie Hall in 1985. She was one of the pioneer black announcers on St. Louis radio and was the feature of a documentary about her life created by Chicago TV channel 28.
