Kok Tobe ( kk, Көктөбе ''Kök Töbe'' - "Blue Hill"; russian: Кок-Тюбе, ''Kok-Tyube'') is a mountain in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city. Kók Tóbe Park, a popular recreation area, is on top of the mountain. Almaty
Almaty (; kk, Алматы; ), formerly known as Alma-Ata ( kk, Алма-Ата), is the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of about 2 million. Kók Tóbe Park
The Kók Tóbe Park is a recreational area in Almaty, Kazakhstan that has a amusement park attractions and restaurants. It is located on top of Kok Tobe and connected to downtown Almaty by a cable car line. The City Terminal is located near Hotel Kazakhstan. Also, there is a 372 meters tall TV Tower at the foot of the mountain. The tower can be seen from most parts of the city. History The park was opened in 2006 and a Beatles monument was constructed in 2007. In September 2014, the mountain was closed for the construction of a new cable car, as well as the reconstruction of the northern side of the mountain and the park. In March 2016, the park completed its construction of the cable car and the park. Transport in the area currently comprises 17 cable cars. Almaty Tower
The Almaty Television Tower (russian: Алматинская телебашня), or simply Almaty Tower, formally the Koktobe TV Tower (russian: Телебашня «Коктобе») is a steel television tower built between 1975 and 1983 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The tower is located on high slopes of Kok Tobe mountain ( kk, Көктөбе means "green hill") south-east of downtown Almaty. Unlike other similar TV towers, it is not a concrete, but a steel tubular structure. It is the tallest free-standing tubular steel structure in the world. The tower is 371.5 m (1,219 ft) tall; its 114 m metal aerial reaches 1000 meters above sea level. It has two observation decks at the height of 146 m and 252 m, which are accessible by two high-speed elevators. It is however not open to the public. Zamanbek Nurkadilov
Zamanbek Qalabayuly Nurkadilov ( kz, Заманбек Қалабайұлы Нұрқаділов, ''Zamanbek Qalabaiūly Nūrqadılov''; 15 January 1944 – 11 November 2005) was a Kazakh politician who served as the head of Almaty in Kazakhstan and Minister of Emergency Situations in the Nazarbayev administration. In March 2004, he began to strongly criticize President Nursultan Nazarbayev. On 11 November 2005, three weeks before the 2005 presidential election, someone shot him twice in the chest and once in the head.
