Cecil Boden Kloss
Cecil Boden Kloss (28 March 1877 – 19 August 1949) was an English zoologist. He was an expert on the mammals and birds of Southeast Asia. The Rubiaceae genus '' Klossia'' was named after him. Kloss was born in a family of Dutch descent who lived in Worcestershire. In the early 20th century, Kloss accompanied the American naturalist William Louis Abbott in exploring the Andaman and Nicobar islands. During the years 1912-1913 Kloss participated in the 2nd Wollaston Expedition to Dutch New Guinea, led by British medical doctor and explorer A.F.R. Sandy Wollaston, in the capacity of zoologist. From 1908 he worked under Herbert Christopher Robinson at the museum in Kuala Lumpur. He was Director of the Raffles Museum from 1923 to 1932 and President of the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society in 1930. Dorothy Dale Kloss (born October 27, 1923) is an American dancer. Life Kloss began dancing when she was three years old. While working with a young Bob Fosse in a Chicago class, she won a tap dance contest and soon gained her own act at the Empire Room in Chicago. She toured the country and played Mexico City with actor Cantinflas. She toured with Eddy Duchin until his orchestra was drafted during World War II, and then performed for the USO. In 1946 she became the hostess and dance instructor of television shows, broadcasting out of Chicago on WBKB. She has performed with Liberace, The Mills Brothers, Mel Tormé, Harry Richman, Howard Keel, Kay Starr, Frankie Laine, and Chico Marx. She was accompanied by such bands as Ray Noble, Skinnay Ennis, Shep Fields and his “Rippling Rhythm,” to name a few. Eric Kloss (born April 3, 1949) is an American jazz saxophonist. Music career Kloss was born blind in Greenville, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, and attended the Western Pennsylvania School for the Blind, which was run by his father. When he was 10, he began to play the saxophone, and two years later he was playing in night clubs with professional musicians such as Bobby Negri, Charles Bell, and Sonny Stitt. At 16, he recorded his debut album, ''Introducing Eric Kloss'' (Prestige, 1965) with Don Patterson and Pat Martino. On his third album, ''Grits & Gravy'' (1966), he was recording with musicians over twice his age: Jaki Byard, Richard Davis, and Alan Dawson. Georg Franz Burkhard Kloss (31 July 1787 Frankfurt am Main - 10 February 1854 Frankfurt) was a German historian of freemasonry. Hans Kloss (12 July 1938 – 12 September 2018) was a German artist and graphic designer. He is best known for his large paintings combining medieval and modern styles. Early life Kloss was born in Ohlau, Silesia, on 12 July 1938. He trained as a ceramics painter, and studied at the ''Fachschule für Gestaltung'' in Schwäbisch Gmünd, a town in the eastern part of Baden-Württemberg, where he settled in 1953. In 1969 he moved to the neighboring town of Lorch, where he has resided since. Work Kloss' most famous work is his '' Staufer-Rundbild'', a panoramic painting depicting in great detail the history of the House of Hohenstaufen, a powerful ruling house in the 12th and 13th centuries. Hans Kloss (28 November 1905 – 16 March 1986) was an Austrian lawyer and bank manager. Kloss was born in Vienna in 1905. After studying law and political science, he worked for Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG and between 1939 and 1945 for the Lufthansa. After the Second World War, he became a civil servant in the Ministry of Finance in 1946, and worked there in providing services to the Austrian finance industry and as a delegate to the International Monetary Fund. He also worked in the Finance Committee of the OECD and for the World Bank in Washington, D.C. In 1962 Kloss moved into the private banking sector as Director General of Genossenschaftlichen Zentralbank AG (today Raiffeisen Bank International). Heinz Kloss (30 October 1904, in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt – 13 June 1987) was a German linguist and internationally recognised authority on linguistic minorities. He coined the terms " Abstandsprache" and " Ausbausprache" to try to describe the differences between what is commonly called a dialect and what is commonly called a language. Kloss was also responsible for summing up previously publicly available statistical data on the North American Jewish population (without any stated political aim); one copy was found in Hitler's library. The book was entitled ''Statistics, Media, and Organizations of Jewry in the United States and Canada''. Henry Kloss (February 21, 1929 – January 31, 2002) was a prominent American audio engineer and entrepreneur who helped advance high fidelity loudspeaker and radio receiver technology beginning in the 1950s. Kloss (pronounced with a long o, like "close") was an undergraduate student in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (class of 1953), but never received a degree. He was responsible for a number of innovations, including, in part, the acoustic suspension loudspeaker and the high fidelity cassette deck. John Kloss, born as John Klosowski (13 June 1937 – 25 March 1987) was an American fashion designer, known for his modern lingerie and sleepwear designs. History John Klosowski was born 13 June 1937 in Detroit, Michigan. He studied at Cass Technical High School, learning about architecture.
