Klei Entertainment Inc. ( ) is a Canadian video game development company located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Klei was formed in July 2005 by Jamie Cheng. Their best-known titles include '' Don't Starve'' and '' Oxygen Not Included''. On January 25, 2021, Klei became a subsidiary of the Chinese holding conglomerate Tencent. History Jamie Cheng founded Klei Entertainment in July 2005. Prior to the formation of Klei, Cheng worked as a specialist AI programmer at Relic Entertainment, formerly owned by THQ. Cheng acquired seed funding for Klei by selling his THQ shares earned at Relic and getting a $10,000 loan from his brother. With the initial funding secured, Cheng partnered with Jeffrey Agala to become co-founder and Creative Director at the studio. In 2009, Klei had 11 employees and as of May 2013, it had grown to 35 employees. Shank (video Game)
''Shank'' is a 2D side-scrolling hack and slash video game developed by Canadian independent studio Klei Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts in 2010. In December 2011, it was re-released as part of the collection Humble Indie Bundle 4. The game features melee and ranged combat, as well as acrobatic gameplay. Its plot was penned by the ''God of War'' series' co-writer Marianne Krawczyk and tells the tale of the ex-hitman Shank's quest for revenge in the single-player campaign, also featuring a prequel story in the form of a cooperative multiplayer campaign for two players. ''Shank'' received mixed reviews, but generally positive reception overall. Critics generally praised the art style of both the gameplay and cutscenes, however some critics felt the game had uneven level design and repetitive gameplay. ''Eets'' (also known as ''Eets: Hunger. It's emotional.'') is a 2D puzzle video game developed by Klei Entertainment and released on March 27, 2006 for Microsoft Windows. It was later released for Mac OS X on December 9, 2010. Both the Windows and Macintosh versions of the game are distributed digitally via Steam. On April 25, 2007 the game was released for the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade under the title ''Eets: Chowdown''. ''Eets'' is a puzzle game with similarities to ''Lemmings'' where players must guide a character through an on-screen puzzle. Eets was reimagined as ''Eets Munchies''.
