Khanuma
Khanuma (russian: Ханума xanuma ) is a shrewd matchmaker in the eponymous 1978 Soviet Russian Georgian-themed television film directed by Georgy Tovstonogov. It is a screen version of the same name classic Georgian vaudeville by Avksenty Tsagareli. The text of Tsagareli's play was updated by Boris Ratser and Vladimir Konstantinov. This work is considered one of the best works of Tovstonogov. Plot The film takes place at the end of the 19th century in Tiflis, Georgia, where two matchmakers; Khanuma and Kabato, compete. The Old Prince Vano Pantiashvili, a drunk, who misses everything possible, is looking for a rich bride to pay debts and buy back the pledged property. Khanuma found him too old and ugly for a bride with a decent dowry. Guliko, the prince knows the bride only by descriptions of Khanuma (and her age in these descriptions gradually increases), but he is mainly interested in a dowry. Avksenty Tsagareli
Avksenty Tsagareli (Georgian: ავქსენტი ცაგარელი; Russian: Авксентий Цагарели) (February 9, 1857 – August 12, 1902) was a Georgian playwright particularly known for his comedies. He was described in the ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' as "one of the finest representatives of realistic drama." Tsagareli was born in the village of Digomi (near Tbilisi) and initially studied at a seminary. He worked as an actor from 1878 to 1883 (the period when one of his best known plays, ''Khanuma'', was first staged) and then as an employee of the Transcaucasian Railroad until 1899. In the last two years of his life, he worked as a stage director in Tbilisi, where he died at the age of 45. Tsagareli was married to the Georgian actress Nato Gabunia (1859–1910). Boris Leskin
Boris Leskin (5 January 1923 – 21 February 2020) was a Soviet and American film and theater actor. Biography Leskin was born on 5 January 1923. In 1937 his father was arrested and executed. During World War II Leskin was employed as a sapper at the front and was wounded. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star and medals. In 1952 he graduated from the Ostrovsky Leningrad Theatre Institute (Leonid Makaryev course). From 1951 to 1980 he worked as an actor in the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater. In 1980 he began his career in the United States as a theater actor in New York City. He was included on the nomination committee for Academy Awards. Vladislav Ignatievich Strzhelchik (russian: Владисла́в Игна́тьевич Стрже́льчик) (1921–1995) was a Soviet and Russian actor. People's Artist of the USSR (1974). Biography Vladislav Strzhelchik born in Petrograd (now Saint Petersburg, Russia). His father, Ignatiy Petrovich was a native of Poland ( pl, Ignacy Strzelczyk) who settled in St. Petersburg at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1938 Vladislav Strzhelchik was accepted into the studio of the Gorky Bolshoi Drama Theater and in the same year he became an actor of this theater, where he worked all his life. He graduated from the studio only in 1947. During the Great Patriotic War, Vladislav Strzhelchik was drafted into the Red Army and served in the infantry at the forefront. Giya Kancheli
Gia Kancheli ( ka, გია ყანჩელი; 10 August 1935 – 2 October 2019) was a Georgian composer. He was born in Tbilisi, Georgia but resided in Belgium. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Kancheli lived first in Berlin, and from 1995 in Antwerp, where he became composer-in-residence for the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. He died in his home city of Tbilisi, aged 84. Work In his symphonies, Kancheli's musical language typically consists of slow scraps of minor-mode melody against long, subdued, anguished string discords. Rodion Shchedrin referred to Kancheli as "an ascetic with the temperament of a maximalist; a restrained Vesuvius". Gennadi Petrovich Bogachyov (russian: Генна́дий Петро́вич Богачёв; 6 March 1945 – 25 April 2023) was a Soviet and Russian theatre and cinema actor, in the troupe of the Bolshoi Drama Theater in St. Petersburg since 1969. In 1990 he was awarded the People's Artist of the RSFSR, and in 2015 Russia's Golden Mask award for best supporting male actor in a drama. Biography Bogachyov was born on 6 March 1945, in the town of Shatsk, Ryazan Oblast. In 1969 he graduated from the acting faculty of LGITMiK and was admitted to the troupe of the Leningrad Drama Theater. Since the early 1980s he was one of the leading artists of the theater. Georgy Aleksandrovich Tovstonogov (russian: Георгий Александрович Товстоногов, – 23 May 1989) was a Russian- Georgian theatre director. He was the leader of the Gorky Bolshoi Drama Theater which was renamed after him in 1992.
