Keister Family Fiddlers
The Keister Family Fiddlers is a Canadian musical group from Chestermere made of sisters Quinn, Claire, Faith, and Paige Keister; who are often accompanied by their mother Sherry Keister in performances. They have performed in different countries, including South Korea and China. For a number of years the Fiddlers were regular performers at the Calgary Stampede. The group plays traditional and Celtic style music. Each of the sisters began playing the fiddle when they were six years old. In addition to fiddles, the group use other instruments, such as the ugly stick and tambourine. Sometimes square dancing or tap dancing will be performed while playing the fiddle. Loren Keister, father of the sisters, serves as the manager for the group. Stephen Avenue is a major pedestrian mall in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The mall is the portion of 8 Avenue SW between 4 Street SW and 1 Street SE. Chestermere
Chestermere, originally named Chestermere Lake, is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta, within Rocky View County. It is largely a commuter town of Calgary and is a member municipality of the Calgary Region. The city, which surrounds Chestermere Lake, was known as Chestermere Lake from 1977 to 1993. Calgary Stampede
The Calgary Stampede is an annual rodeo, exhibition, and festival held every July in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The ten-day event, which bills itself as "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth", attracts over one million visitors per year and features one of the world's largest rodeos, a parade, midway, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing, and First Nations exhibitions. Ugly Stick
The ugly stick is a traditional Newfoundland musical instrument fashioned out of household and tool shed items, typically a mop handle with bottle caps, tin cans, small bells and other noise makers. The instrument is played with a drum stick or notched stick and has a distinctive sound. History In outports and remote villages, social gatherings such as concerts, "times," mummering, and kitchen parties were an important part of the rural culture. The principal melody instruments were accordions and fiddles. Starting in the 20th century, rhythmic accompaniment came from the ugly stick.
