Katie Vesterstein
Kaitlyn Vesterstein (born June 21, 1999) is an alpine skier, who competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Born in the United States, Vesterstein now competes for Estonia, and the University of Utah college team. Personal life Vesterstein is from Duluth, Minnesota, US. Her grandfather and great-uncle were both skiers in Estonia, and her grandfather moved from Estonia to Duluth in the 1950s. He had fled to Germany during the Second World War, and was later a forced displacement from the Soviet Union to the United States. At the age of 10, Vesterstein moved to Park City, Utah. As a youngster, she competed in soccer, horseback riding, water skiing, and cross-country skiing. All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running. Alpine Combined
Combined is an event in alpine ski racing. A traditional combined competition consists of one run of downhill and two runs of slalom, each discipline runs on separate days. The winner is the skier with the fastest aggregate time. (Until the 1990s, a complicated point system was used to determine placings in the combined event.) A modified version, the super combined, is a speed race (downhill or super-G) and only one run of slalom, with both portions scheduled on the same day. Spirit Mountain (ski Area)
Spirit Mountain is a ski area in Duluth, Minnesota. It was founded by the City of Duluth and was built in 1974. With a vertical elevation of approximately , it is the second tallest ski hill in Minnesota. Between 2014 and 2020, the executive director was Brandy Ream. The Spirit Mountain ski area held its grand opening on December 19–20, 1974. The idea was proposed by former Olympian George Hovland, who laid out the cross country trails, with support from then Mayor of Duluth Ben Boo. Local businessman Manley Goldfine served as Chairman of the Spirit Mountain Authority during its development. It greatly increased winter revenues in the city.
