KWFS (AM)
KWFS (1290 kHz) is an AM radio station with a news/talk radio format serving the area of Wichita Falls, Texas, United States. It is owned by Townsquare Media, with studios on Kell Boulevard in Wichita Falls. KWFS is the oldest radio station still remaining in Wichita Falls. It was the third established in the city, but the first two outlets (on 620 and 990 kHz) were moved in to the Dallas–Fort Worth area in the 1990s. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. 1979 Red River Valley Tornado Outbreak
A destructive and deadly tornado outbreak impacted the Red River Valley on April 10, 1979. Several strong to violent tornadoes touched down throughout the region that day. One F4 tornado impacted Vernon, Texas. The most notable tornado was another F4 tornado that destroyed most of the southern part of Wichita Falls, Texas, and is commonly referred to as "Terrible Tuesday" by many meteorologists. Additional tornadoes were reported across the Southern Plains as well as in the Mississippi River Valley on April 11–12. Overall, the outbreak killed 58 people and injured 1,927 others. KFCD (990 AM) is a commercial radio station in Farmersville, Texas. It is owned by Linda Hammond, through licensee Farmersville Investments, LLC, and airs a Spanish-language Christian radio format. Blocks of time are sold to hosts who may use their shows to appeal for donations to their ministries. The system is known as brokered programming. KFCD is powered at 7,000 watts by day.
