KIKX (defunct)
KIKX was a radio station on 580 kHz in Tucson, Arizona, which operated from April 10, 1947, until closing on July 18, 1982. The station lost its FCC license due to a 1974 kidnapping hoax involving one of the station's disc jockeys. History As KCNA and KTAN The Catalina Broadcasting Corporation signed on KCNA at 1340 kHz on April 10, 1947. It broadcast with 250 watts from a transmitter located at Cherry Avenue and 16th Street, using an RCA transmitter that was boasted to be the largest ever shipment in that company's history, and at the time, it was Tucson's only locally owned radio station. KCNA initially presented popular and classical music, along with hourly news reports. KZMK (100.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a contemporary hit radio format. Licensed to Sierra Vista, Arizona, United States, it serves southwestern Cochise County, Arizona. The station is currently owned by Townsquare Media, through licensee Townsquare License, LLC. History This station first went on the air on September 9, 1973 using the call sign KTAN-FM, and it broadcast a top 40 rock and roll format. It was the sister station of KTAN AM and the first FM station in southern Cochise County. KTAN-AM-FM was owned by Ken Ferguson (Huachuca Broadcasting). Ken Ferguson died in a plane crash in 1977 and the station was sold, changing its call sign to KTAZ-FM to coincide with its use of Z-Rock as its music service. Douglas is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States that lies in the north-west to south-east running Sulpher Springs Valley. Douglas has a border crossing with Mexico at Agua Prieta and a history of mining. The population was 16,531 in the 2020 Census. History The Douglas area was first settled by the Spanish in the 18th century. Presidio de San Bernardino was established in 1776 and abandoned in 1780. Bisbee is a city in and the county seat of Cochise County in southeastern Arizona, United States. It is southeast of Tucson and north of the Mexican border.
