KSLU (Saint Louis University)
KSLU is a student media organization at Saint Louis University (SLU) in Saint Louis, Missouri. The organization, which is affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences' Department of Communication, provides "Saint Louis University and the St. Louis community with a student-run, tangible media outlet; providing new music, talk radio, written publication, as well as other student needs". Its studios and offices are located in the university's Busch Student Center building. KSLU traces its founding to the establishment of a carrier current radio station, that was set up at the university in 1949. As technologies for distributing audio programming have evolved, KSLU has employed, in turn, AM and FM radio broadcasting, transmission over cable TV channels, and, most recently, streaming audio and podcasts available over the internet. Saint Louis University (SLU) is a private Jesuit research university with campuses in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, and Madrid, Spain. Billiken
The Billiken is a charm doll created by an American art teacher and illustrator, Florence Pretz of Kansas City, Missouri, who is said to have seen the mysterious figure in a dream. It is believed that Pretz found the name Billiken in Bliss Carman's 1896 poem "Mr. Moon: A Song Of The Little People". In 1908, she obtained a design patent on the ornamental design of the Billiken, which she sold to the Billiken Company of Chicago. The Billiken was monkey-like with pointed ears, a mischievous smile and a tuft of hair on his pointed head. His arms were short and he was generally sitting with his legs stretched out in front of him. Billiken is known as "The God of Things as They Ought to Be". To buy a Billiken was said to give the purchaser luck, but to receive one as a gift would be better luck. The image was copyrighted and a trademark was put on the name. Betty Clooney (April 12, 1931 – August 5, 1976) was an American singer, TV presenter and pioneer who briefly rose to fame in the 1950s with sister Rosemary Clooney. She led a very brief solo career, with songs like "Kiki" and "You're All I See". She married actor and musician Pupi Campo in 1955, and they had four children. KDCD (92.9 FM, "Lonestar 92.9") is a radio station playing a country music format in San Angelo, Texas, United States. The radio station is owned by Four R Broadcasting, Inc. History KBIL On August 31, 1977, San Angelo Broadcasters, Inc., a group headed by Bill Jamar of Brownwood, applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a construction permit to build a new 100,000-watt FM radio station in San Angelo on 92.9 MHz. The permit was granted on May 29, 1979, and work on studios in the Plaza Tower began early the next year. Airing an adult contemporary format, KBIL began broadcasts in late May and officially started on June 1, 1980.
