KEX Hotel
The KEX Hotel is a hotel at the intersection of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Couch Street in Portland, Oregon, United States. Kex is based in Reykjavík, and the Portland location is the brand's first hotel outside Iceland. The hotel is unconnected in any way to Portland radio station KEX (1190). History The hotel closed temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, reopening in June 2021. KEX Hotel featured Dóttir, until the restaurant closed on January 1, 2022. KEX (1190 kHz) is a clear channel AM radio station licensed to Portland, Oregon. It is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., and airs a news/talk format known as ''NewsRadio 1190''. The station's studios and offices are on SW 68th Parkway, off Interstate 5 in Tigard, Oregon. Because KEX is a 50,000-watt Class A station, it reaches all of the Portland metropolitan area and beyond, providing grade B coverage as far south as Corvallis and as far east as The Dalles. At night, KEX can be heard around the Western United States and Western Canada. The transmitter is located off SE Lawnfield Road in Sunnyside. It uses a non-directional antenna in the daytime, but at night, to protect other stations on 1190 AM, it switches to a directional antenna with a three-tower array. Dóttir was a restaurant in Portland, Oregon's KEX Hotel, in the United States. The restaurant closed on January 1, 2022. Description and history Dóttir (Icelandic: "daughter") was a 3,500-square-foot restaurant on the ground floor of the KEX Hotel on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Described as having "Icelandic-Pacific-Northwestern" ( Icelandic/Nordic and Pacific Northwest) cuisine, the restaurant opened in 2019. Ólafur Ágústsson and Alex Jackson served as culinary director and executive chef. Dóttir began serving brunch in January 2020. Kerns, Portland, Oregon
Kerns is a neighborhood in the inner Northeast and Southeast sections of Portland, Oregon. It borders the Lloyd District and Sullivan's Gulch on the north, Laurelhurst on the east, Buckman and Sunnyside on the south, and (across the Willamette River) Old Town Chinatown on the west. The Kerns neighborhood dates back to the 1850s when the area’s first homesteader, William Kerns, wielded axes and saws to clear his 320-acre Donation Land Claim.
