KAUST
The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST; ') is a private research university located in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. Founded in 2009, the university provides research and graduate training programs in English as the official language of instruction. It is named after King Abdullah bin Abdulalziz, the ruler of Saudi Arabia from 2005 until 2015. KAUST is the first mixed-gender university campus in Saudi Arabia. In 2013, the university was among the 500 fastest growing research and citation records in the world. In the 2016 Nature Index Rising Stars, the university ranked 19th in the world of the fastest rising universities for high quality research output. Shaheen (supercomputer)
Shaheen is the name of a series of supercomputers owned and operated by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. Shaheen is named after the Shaheen Falcon, Peregrine Falcon. The most recent model, ''Shaheen III'', is the largest and most powerful supercomputer in the Middle East. Shaheen I The first generation of Shaheen (2009-2015) was an Blue Gene#Blue Gene.2FP, IBM Blue Gene/P. It was originally built at IBM's Thomas J. Thuwal
Thuwal () is a coastal village in Jeddah Governorate, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia, situated along the coast of Red Sea in the Hejaz region. Thuwal is 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of King Abdullah Economic City and 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Jeddah. Frank Press (December 4, 1924 – January 29, 2020) was an American geophysicist. He was an advisor to four U.S. presidents, and later served two consecutive terms as president of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (1981–1993). He was the author of 160 scientific papers and co-author of the textbooks ''Earth'' and ''Understanding Earth''. Press served on the President's Science Advisory Committee during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and was appointed by President Richard Nixon to the National Science Board. Nadhmi A. Al-Nasr () is the former CEO of the NEOM project from 2018 to 2024 and is the former Executive Vice-President for Administration and Finance at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and has held this office since 2008. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (, ; 1 August 1924 – 23 January 2015) was King of Saudi Arabia, King and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia from 1 August 2005 until his death in 2015.
