Koninklijke Sint-Truidense Voetbalvereniging (), commonly known as Sint-Truiden or STVV () or by their nickname De Kanaries (), is a Belgian professional football club located in the city of Sint-Truiden in Limburg. Sint-Truiden plays in the Belgian Pro League. Their best ranking was a second place in 1965–66. They also reached the final of the Belgian Cup twice. The club was founded in 1924. Stayen
Stayen is a football stadium in Sint-Truiden, Belgium. It is the home ground of K. Sint-Truidense V.V., STVV. The stadium holds 14,600 after its most recent rebuild. The original stadium was built in 1927. The name "Stayen" is a local dialect word for "Staden", an old quarter of the town on its western side. Between the 1950s and 2009 the word was normally written as "Staaien". One regularly applied soubriquet is "Hel van Stayen" (''"Hell of Stayen"''), used on behalf of top teams that suffer defeats in the stadium. The Stayen Hotel is built into the north side of the stadium: 20 of its rooms overlook the pitch. From February 2023, the Japanese company "Daio Wasabi Farm" acquired the naming rights of the stadium, and named it "Daio Wasabi Stayen Stadium". This is the first time in history for a Belgian league that a Japanese company has acquired the naming rights for a stadium. Marc Wilmots
Marc Robert Wilmots (born 22 February 1969) is a Belgian professional football manager and former player who is the sporting director of Standard Liège. During his club career as an attacking midfielder, he won trophies with KV Mechelen, Standard Liège and Schalke 04. He represented the Belgium national team, earning 70 caps. He was in the Belgium squad for the 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Cups, as well as the 2000 Euro which Belgium hosted jointly with the Netherlands. Wilmots has also been a politician, having sat in the Senate for four years for the Mouvement Réformateur party. Club career In his club career, which started in 1987, Wilmots played for Sint-Truiden, Mechelen, Standard Liège, Schalke 04, and Bordeaux. At Schalke, he helped them to the 1997 UEFA Cup final. His goal in the first leg was cancelled out by Internazionale in the second leg, but Schalke went on to win the game on penalties, with Wilmots scoring the decisive goal. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from , "between" and , " betting pool"),Most precisely, from (football pool); cf. originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition between European clubs. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. The tournament was founded in 1961–62, but was only taken over by UEFA in 1995. Initially, the tournament ended with a single champion, who received the Intertoto Cup. Starting in 1967, the tournament ended with a number of group winners (7 to 14 winners), who received cash prizes. When UEFA took on the tournament, it became a qualifier for the UEFA Cup, with 2 to 11 Intertoto winners advancing to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup. Belgian League Cup
The Belgian League Cup was a Belgian association football cup created in 1973. The competition was held from 1973 by eleven clubs wanting to increase professionalism in Belgian football but lasted only three seasons before being disbanded. The tournament was then revived the first time in 1986 for one season and finally a second time in 1998 for three seasons. In 2000, due to disagreements over television rights, combined with poor attendances and a lack of interest from the top clubs, the trophy was cancelled after the 2000–01 edition. At that time the winners of the tournament qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The 2004–05 season of the Belgian First Division began on August 6, 2004 and ended on May 23, 2005. Club Brugge became champions on May 15, 2005 after a decisive game against long-time rivals Anderlecht. The season was full of suspense as the champions and the relegated teams were only known on the 33rd (on 34) matchday. Furthermore, the 3rd place (qualifying for UEFA Cup) had to be decided on a test-match, a fact that had not occurred recently.
