K. Barry Sharpless
Karl Barry Sharpless (born April 28, 1941) is an American stereochemist. He is a two-time Nobel laureate in chemistry, known for his work on stereoselective reactions and click chemistry. Sharpless was awarded half of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his work on chirally catalysed oxidation reactions", and one third of the 2022 prize, jointly with Carolyn R. Bertozzi and Morten P. Meldal, "for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry". Sharpless is the fifth person (in addition to two organizations) to have twice been awarded a Nobel prize, along with Marie Curie, John Bardeen, Linus Pauling and Frederick Sanger, and the third to have been awarded two prizes in the same discipline (after Bardeen and Sanger). Hartmuth Christian Kolb (born 10 August 1964) is a German chemist. He is considered one of the founders of click chemistry. Early life and career After graduating from high school in Marsberg in 1983, Kolb studied at the University of Hanover under the direction of Professor H.M.R. Hoffmann. He received his doctorate as an academic student of Steven Ley at Imperial College London with a thesis on preparative organic chemistry (''Synthesis of the decalin fragment of azadirachtin''). As a postdoctoral fellow he worked with Barry Sharpless at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. Jacobsen (born February 22, 1960, in New York City, New York) is the Sheldon Emery Professor of Chemistry and former chair of the department of chemistry and chemical biology at Harvard University. Gregory C. Fu is an American chemist who is a professor of organic chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, where he is the Norman Chandler Professor of Chemistry. The current research interests of the Fu laboratory include metal-catalyzed coupling reactions and the design of chiral catalysts. Eugene Earle van Tamelen (July 20, 1925 – December 12, 2009) was an organic chemist who is especially recognized for his contributions to bioorganic chemistry. van Tamelen published five papers while an undergraduate at Hope College.
