Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form during the mid-1950s in the United States and the United Kingdom. ''Disco'' is the first remix album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys, released on 17 November 1986 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom and by EMI America Records in the United States. The Works (Nik Kershaw Album)
The Works is the fourth studio album by the English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nik Kershaw. It was released in 1989 and was the last album he created for MCA Records. Kershaw chose the album's title as he felt the album represented "the collected works of Nik Kershaw". He did not release any new solo material until ''15 Minutes'', 10 years later. The album was not commercially successful, though the lead single " One Step Ahead" reached No. #55 in the UK. " Elisabeth's Eyes", the second and final single, failed to chart altogether. Although the album was produced by Peter Wolf and co-produced by Brian Malouf, both singles were written shortly after Kershaw became unhappy with Wolf's production and his direction for the album. Nicholas David Kershaw (born 1 March 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. Kershaw came to prominence in 1984 as a solo artist. ''Whoops! There Goes the Neighbourhood'' was The Blow Monkeys' 1989 follow-up album to '' She Was Only A Grocer's Daughter'', released two years before. The album, the fourth issued from the band, represented a further step towards the incorporation of more dancey elements, started with their third 1987 LP, especially with the UK hit "It Doesn't Have to Be That Way", which, getting to Number 5, made that their highest-charting song ever. The first single was "This Is Your Life" continued the pop funk style but failed chart wise and reached no. 70 in the UK. The second single, the politically oriented "It Pays to Belong", following Dr. Robert's tradition of criticising England's political reality also did not chart in the UK Top 75. The Blow Monkeys are a British new wave/sophisti-pop band that formed in 1981. The first single, "Live Today Love Tomorrow," was released in 1982. They subsequently enjoyed a successful career with several hit singles and albums across the 1980s before splitting up at the beginning of the 1990s. ''Race'' is the third studio album released by Australian new wave band, Pseudo Echo. It was released via EMI Australia in 1988 and RCA Records internationally in 1989. ''Race'' resulted in a musical change for the group as it mirrored the music landscape at the time; dominated by big hair, big guitars and rock. While the album no doubt alienated the majority of the band's fan base, it equally attracted a new breed of rock loving fans. Pseudo Echo are an Australian new wave band that formed in 1982 by founding mainstay Brian Canham on vocals, guitar and keyboards. Other original members were Pierre Gigliotti (as Pierre Pierre) on bass keyboards and bass guitar, and Tony Lugton on keyboards. ''Staring at the Sun'' is the eighth studio album by British jazz/funk band Level 42, released in 1988. The album includes the singles " Heaven in My Hands" (UK No. 12), " Take a Look" (UK No. 32) and " Tracie" (UK no. 25). Background ''Staring at the Sun'' is the first Level 42 album not to feature brothers Phil Gould and Boon Gould, although Boon did write the lyrics to six of the songs. They were replaced by British guitarist Alan Murphy, who had collaborated with Go West and singer Kate Bush, and drummer Gary Husband, who had been a member of the band Morrissey–Mullen. This would be the only Level 42 album on which Murphy would appear, as he died only a year after its release from complications related to HIV/AIDS. Level 42 is an English jazz-funk band formed on the Isle of Wight in 1979. They had a number of UK and worldwide hits during the 1980s and 1990s.
