Juan Chastang
Juan H. Chastang (born 1961 or 1962) is an American politician in Mobile County, Alabama. He is notable for being the subject in the case of Bob Riley, Riley vs. Kennedy, a case concerning Alabama election and appointment law which was taken on and ruled upon by the United States Supreme Court. Appointment to office In 2005, longtime County Commissioner Sam Jones (Alabama politician), Sam Jones was elected as Mayor of Mobile. This left a vacancy in the first district seat on the County Commission. Governor Bob Riley appointed Chastang, an African-American Republican Party (United States), Republican, to serve out the remainder to the term in the heavily African-American and Democratic Party (United States), Democratic district. This was not the first time that Riley had appointed someone to local office in Mobile County. Sam Jones (Alabama Politician)
Samuel Leon Jones (born April 14, 1947) is an American politician who is a member of the Alabama House of Representatives representing district 99. Jones was the first African-American mayor of Mobile, Alabama, serving from September 2005 until August 2013. He ran on a platform of safety, efficient government, historic preservation and bringing new employers to the city. Early life and education Jones is a graduate of Central High School and attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Florida Junior College and Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida, Jacksonville, Florida. Career Jones served for nine years in the United States Navy, U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal (CV-59), USS ''Forrestal''.
