José Chemo Soto
José Ramón "Chemo" Soto Rivera (December 17, 1943 – December 27, 2021) was a Puerto Rican politician who was the mayor of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, Canóvanas from 1993 to 2014, Puerto Rico and a member of the New Progressive Party of Puerto Rico, New Progressive Party. Early years and work Soto was born in Loíza, Puerto Rico, Loíza, Puerto Rico to Ramón Soto Segarra and Rosa Rivera Carrión. He was the sixth of eleven children born to the couple. Soto began his studies at the Cambalache elementary school, and then attended the Eugenio María de Hostos Junior High School and Andrés Flores López High School in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, Canóvanas, Puerto Rico. Canóvanas, Puerto Rico
Canóvanas (, ) is a town and municipality in Puerto Rico, located in the northeastern region, north of Juncos and Las Piedras; south of Loíza; east of Carolina; and west of Río Grande. Canóvanas is spread over 6 barrios and Canóvanas Pueblo (the downtown area and administrative center). It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The region of what is now Canóvanas belonged to the Taíno region of ''Cayniabón'', also the native name of the Grande de Loiza River, which stretched from the central eastern region of Puerto Rico to the northeast coast of the island. The Puerto Rican Independence Party ( es, Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño, PIP) is a social-democratic political party in Puerto Rico that campaigns for the independence of Puerto Rico from the United States.
