Joseph Meyer (publisher)
Joseph Meyer (9 May 1796 - 27 June 1856) was a German industrialist and publisher, most noted for his encyclopaedia, Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Biography Meyer was born at Gotha, Germany, and was educated as a merchant in Frankfurt am Main. He went to London in 1816, but returned to Germany in 1820 after business adventures and stock speculations fell through. Here he invested in enterprises such as the textile trade (1820–24). Soon after the first steam-hauled railway had started in December 1835, Meyer started to make business plans to start the first railways. He also bought some concessions for iron mining. In 1845 he founded the ''Deutsche Eisenbahnschienen-Compagnie auf Actien'' (German Railway Rail joint stock company). Meyer operated very successfully as a publisher, employing a system of serial subscription to publications, which was new at that time. Joseph Meyer (songwriter)
Joseph Meyer (March 12, 1894 – June 22, 1987) was an American songwriter, who wrote some of the most notable songs of the first half of the twentieth century. Many of his songs were originally written for Broadway musicals. Meyer collaborated with many famous songwriters of the day including Buddy DeSylva, Al Lewis and Al Sherman. Three of his most famous songs were the 1922 hit, " California, Here I Come", "My Honey's Lovin' Arms" (1922) and "If You Knew Susie" (1925), a song he co-wrote with Buddy DeSylva. Meyer songs have been featured in over 120 motion picture soundtracks. He wrote the melody to " A Cup of Coffee, a Sandwich, and You", lyrics by Al Dubin and Billy Rose, often used in Warner Brothers' cartoons during scenes of hunger, cooking and eating. Joseph Brown Meyer (April 22, 1941 – October 6, 2012) was an American politician from the U.S. state of Wyoming. Background Meyer was born in 1941 in Casper, Wyoming. He graduated from Natrona County High School and was educated at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, from which he earned his undergraduate degree and then his J.D. He began his career as the Fremont County attorney before going into the private practice of law. Political career In 1971, Meyer returned to public service when he was selected to serve as the first assistant director of the Legislative Service Office in Cheyenne during the administration of Governor Stanley K. Hathaway. Meyer worked with lawmakers to prepare hundreds of bills, many of which became and remain state law. Tanner Joe Meyer (born May 10, 1962) is an American former Major League Baseball player. He played two seasons in the majors, and , for the Milwaukee Brewers. He also played one season in Japan for the Yokohama Taiyo Whales in . Drafted by the Brewers in the 5th round of the 1983 Major League Baseball draft, Meyer showed prodigious power in the minor leagues. In his first season of minor league ball for the Beloit Brewers in , he hit 30 home runs in 475 at bats, earning Midwest League MVP honors.
