John Wittlebury
John Wittlebury or Whittlebury (1333 – 21 April 1400) was an English Member of Parliament. He was the third son and heir of Aubrey Wittlebury (1306–1349) of Whissendine, Rutland, a member of one of the leading families of the county. He inherited his father's estates in Rutland and Northamptonshire after his eldest brother had died young and his other brother had entered Peterborough Abbey. He served on the bench as a Justice of the Peace for Rutland from 1368 to 1399 and was appointed High Sheriff of Rutland for 1372–1374 (2 years), 1377–1378, 1381–1382, 1388 and from 1399 to his death in 1400. He was elected knight of the shire (MP) for Rutland (UK Parliament constituency), Rutland 6 times between 1372 and 1395. He married twice: firstly Maud, the daughter and co-heiress of Sir Walter Poynton of Canwick, Lincolnshire, with whom he had at least 2 sons and secondly Agnes, with whom he had at least 3 more sons. Whissendine
Whissendine is a village and civil parish in Rutland, England, north-west of the county town, Oakham. The population at the 2001 census was 1,189, increasing to 1,253 at the 2011 census. The village's name either means 'valley of Hwicce' or 'valley of the people of Hwicci'. Alternatively, perhaps 'valley of the pirates'. It has a pub, The White Lion; a Church of England parish church and a working windmill. The Methodist chapel closed in 2009, the last service being held on 30 August. Whissendine Windmill was built in 1809 and returned to milling in September 2006. The windmill is a Grade II* listed building and is said to be the tallest stone windmill in the country. St Andrew's Church, Whissendine was built in the 13th century and has a 14th-century tower. Canwick
Canwick is a village and civil parish in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 324. It is situated south from Lincoln. The village overlooks the Witham Valley, where the River Witham follows an ice-age cut through the jurassic limestone ridge which forms the spine of the county. History Canwick has been continuously occupied since Saxon times (the name derives from "Canna’s Farm" or "Canna’s Place" in Anglo-Saxon), but there was a significant villa here in the Roman period. Canwick Anglican church is dedicated to All Saints. The fabric dates from the 12th, 14th and early 18th centuries, and the building was restored in the 19th century.
