John Dunlay
John Dunlay Victoria Cross, VC (1831 – 17 October 1890), also known as John Dunley or John Dunlea was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth forces. He was approximately 26 years old, and a Lance-Corporal in the 93rd Regiment of Foot (later The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders), British Army during the Indian Mutiny when the following deed on 16 November 1857 at Lucknow, India, took place for which he was awarded the VC: Sikandar Bagh, Secundra Bagh is a villa and country estate on the outskirts of Lucknow, India. Dunlea was born in Douglas, County Cork and died in the South Infirmary, Cork (city), Cork on 17 October 1890. Douglas, County Cork
Douglas () is a suburb, with a village core, in Cork city, Ireland. Douglas is also the name of the townland, Roman Catholic parish, Church of Ireland parish and civil parish in which it is contained. Originally a separate village, the growth of both the village and the city has meant Douglas has become incorporated into the city over time. The 2017 Mackinnon Report proposed that Douglas and surrounding residential areas be moved to within an extended Cork City Council boundary, ending the division of Douglas between the city and county administrative areas. Douglas, along with Rochestown, Grange and Frankfield, formally moved into the city council area on 31 May 2019, following the 2019 local elections.
