John Bailey (rugby League)
John Bailey (born 1954) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s. Playing career Bailey came to St George Dragons from Inverell, New South Wales, in 1973 and made first grade in 1975. He was a member of the St. George team that won the Under 23s grand final in 1974 and made it into first grade the following year. He played in the devastating 1975 NSWRFL season, 1975 Grand Final loss to Sydney Roosters, Eastern Suburbs but returned in 1977 to play in the 1977 NSWRFL season, 1977 Grand Final victory over Parramatta Eels, scoring a penalty try in the last minutes of the match. Coaching career He retired after the grand final and went on to coach Western Suburbs Magpies, Western Suburbs between 1988 and 1990 after having coached the lower grades at the St. George Dragons. John Ira Bailey, (born August 10, 1942) is an American cinematographer and film director known for his collaborations with directors Paul Schrader, Lawrence Kasdan, Michael Apted, and Ken Kwapis. In August 2017, Bailey was elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He was succeeded by casting director David Rubin in August 2019. John Bailey (1750–1819), was an English agriculturist and engraver. Life Bailey was the son of William Bailey, of Blades Field, near Bowes, then in Yorkshire, now in County Durham, where he was born in 1750. At an early age he manifested artistic tendencies. While employed as tutor to his uncle's children he devoted his leisure hours to engraving various pieces, which he afterwards published. Both in his artistic and mathematical studies he received assistance from his uncle. After completing the education of his uncle's children he became a mathematical teacher at Witton-le-Wear, and began also the business of a land surveyor. Shortly after his marriage he was appointed land agent to Charles Bennet, 4th Earl of Tankerville at Chillingham, a situation he retained till his death, 4 June 1819, in his sixty-ninth year. John Bailey or Baily (1644–1697) was an English dissenting minister, later in life in New England. Early life Bailey was, according to Cotton Mather, who preached his funeral sermon, born near Blackburn in Lancashire on 24 February 1643-4.' He was the son of Thomas Bailey, member of the congregation of the Rev. Thomas Jolly at Altham, and later at Wymond House. Probably the former was the birthplace. Both are near Blackburn (Lancashire). His father was dissolute but his wife was pious. By his twelfth year John conducted family worship. He attended at first the Queen Elizabeth grammar school of Blackburn. The master was then Charles Sagar. Later he was placed under the theological tuition of the Rev. John Bailey (1931–2011) was a British luthier who made and repaired guitars and other stringed instruments during the 1960s revival of English folk music and beyond. Bailey lived in London until 1972 when he moved to Dartmouth in Devon. In the mid to late 1970s he moved back to London and for a time he was the Course Organiser of the Musical Instrument Repair Course (set up by Selwyn Jones, Paul Harvey and John Stone) at Merton College in Wimbledon. The demands of academic management however did not suit him and he was happiest when in the classroom passing on his skills to students. Hence in the late 70's he moved back to Dartmouth and he continued to make instruments there into the 1990s. John was originally a woodwork teacher at a school in Hendon and made instruments in his spare time. Sir John Bilsland Bailey (5 November 1928 – 22 February 2021) was a British solicitor and public servant. Bailey was born in Eltham, London to Walter Bailey (died 1932), who ran the Lord Derby pub opposite Woolwich Arsenal, and the composer Ethel Edith Bilsland, who married secondly Sir Thomas George Spencer, a telecommunications executive. His first cousin was the actor John Bailey. He was educated at Eltham College and graduated from University College London with a law degree and was admitted as a solicitor in 1954. He was appointed an Under-Secretary in the Treasury Solicitor's Department in 1973, and then served as Legal Director of the Office of Fair Trading between 1977 and 1979, when he became Deputy Treasury Solicitor.
