John Anderson (Scottish Businessman)
John Anderson (1747–1820) was a Scottish businessman and entrepreneur. He was a commercial agent in New York and later a business owner in Cork. His business played a pivotal role in creating infrastructure that connected Dublin to Cork. Anderson purchased land in Fermoy that was later used as a military complex. Career Anderson was born into a poor family at Portland near Dumfries, Scotland and moved to Glasgow in 1784. He later settled in Cork City, at that time the major provisioning centre on the Atlantic Coast. During the American wars he earned considerable sums as a commercial agent in New York, and made extensive land purchases in the Cork area. His Cork enterprise was based at Lapp's Island, and his business acumen was recognised as he grew rapidly in fortune and was appointed to the city's committee of merchants. John Cornbread Anderson
John "Cornbread" Anderson is an American folk artist from rural Lumpkin, Georgia. He is known for his paintings of animals, particularly the guinea fowl, with large eyes. Biography Anderson grew up in the woods of the Mill Creek community in Lumpkin. He has held a variety of jobs, including being a butcher, a mechanic, a police officer, and manager of a farm. Both his mother and wife are visual artists. In 1995, he began to explore art by painting the animals (both from the farm and wild) and scenes he was so familiar with. He is a religious (Christian) and down to earth man, concerned with the loss of habitat for southern wildlife as Atlanta, GA expands. Anderson currently lives in North Georgia with his wife, Jana, and two sons, Poley and Isaac. John Alvin Anderson
John Alvin Anderson (March 25, 1869 – June 26, 1948) was a Swedish-American photographer who spent most of his life in the United States. He is known for photographing Sioux Indians at the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota from 1885 until 1930. Many of his works are displayed at the Nebraska State Historical Society in Lincoln, Nebraska. Early life Anderson was the sixth child born to Anders Salomon Gabrielsson and Anna-Beata Magnusdotter. The family farmed in present-day Vinberg-Ljungby, near Falkenberg, in Halland, Sweden. Gabrielsson spent time in the United States in 1869, earning money to send home, and in May of the following year, shortly after Anderson was born, the entire family emigrated to Pennsylvania. John Henry Anderson (1814–1874) was a Scottish professional magician. Anderson is credited with helping bring the art of magic from street performances into theatres and presenting magic performances to entertain and delight the audience. Career Anderson was born near Torphins in Aberdeenshire. Orphaned at the age of ten, he started his career appearing on the stage with a travelling dramatic company in 1830. At seventeen, he began performing magic and in 1837, at the age of twenty-three, he performed at the castle of Lord Panmure, whose endorsement of Anderson inspired him to put a touring show together which lasted for three years. In 1840, Anderson settled in London, opening the New Strand Theatre. Sir Walter Scott is said to have given him the stage name, The Great Wizard of the North.
