Johan Poulsen
Johan Martin Fredrik Poulsen (September 26, 1890 – June 24, 1980) was a Faroese teacher and politician for the Union Party. Poulsen was born in Toftir.''Kraks Blå Bog''. 1974. Copenhagen: Krak./ref> He represented the Union Party in the Faroese Parliament for a full 50 years, from the 1920 election until the 1970 election, as a representative from Eysturoy. As such, he was the longest-ever sitting member of the Løgting. He served as speaker of the Løgting from 1932 to 1936, 1938 to 1940, and 1951 to 1958, and as deputy speaker from 1958 to 1970. He was also a member of the Danish Parliament from 1939 to 1943 and from 1950 to 1964, and a member of the Nordic Council from 1953 to 1964. In addition, Poulsen served as party leader for 22 years, from 1948 to 1970. Toftir
Toftir ( da, Tofte) is a village in Nes Municipality on the island of Eysturoy, in the Faroe Islands. It is part of a chain of villages stretching over a distance of 10 kilometres on the east side of Skálafjørður (fjord) on Eysturoy island. The highest hill in Toftir, called ''Húkslond'', is 129 metres high, and Nes Municipality is the only area in the Faroes which has no mountains above 200 metres. The Lake Toftir area was the first area in the Faroe Islands to become a Nature reserve in the 1980s, and in 2006 Nes Municipality, in cooperation with neighbouring Runavík Municipality, joined a network of local authorities in the Nordic countries working to halt the loss of biodiversity in their local areas. Faroese Teachers School
The Faroese Teachers School ( fo, Føroya Læraraskúli) is a college in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands, which became part of the University of the Faroe Islands on 1 August 2008. Since 2008 it has offered bachelor's degrees in general and specialized education; before 2008, education students did not receive a BA. The school's four-year program in general education qualifies graduates for teaching positions in primary schools and preschools in the Faroe Islands and Denmark. Sjóvar Municipality ( Faroese: ''Sjóvar kommuna'') is a municipality of the Faroe Islands. The name of the municipality has its origins from the farm ''Sjógv á Strondum'' which gave name to Sjóvar parish. The name comes from the Faroese word for ''seawater'' (''sjógvur''). Strendur ( da, Strænder) is a village on the Faroe Islands, Faroese island of Eysturoy, located along the Skálafjørður fjord. It is the seat and main settlement of the Sjóvar Municipality. Lamba (Faroe Islands)
Lamba (, da, Lamhauge), is a small village in the bottom of the inlet of Lambavík on the east coast of Eysturoy, Faroe Islands. There are similarly named places, Lamba in Shetland and Lambay in Ireland. Settlement The houses in Lamba are spread down through the valley following the road on its way from the bottom of the valley down to the small harbour. There is a huge rock in the harbour. Nobody wants to remove it because it is said to be inhabited by ‘huldufólk’, a race of elfs or faries that people used to believe in. They are said to be fierce if disturbed. Glyvrar
Glyvrar ( da, Glibre) is a village located on Eysturoy, in the Faroe Islands. It is one of several villages on the east side of the Skálafjørður fjord that have grown into a 10-kilometre-long conurbation. In Glyvrar there is a museum called ’Bygdasavnid Forni’. The church in Glyvrar was originally built in 1927, but it was heavily restored in 1981. From 1903 to 1928 there was a school for navigators in Glyvrar. Graduates from here would become masters of fishing-ships. The Bible translator Victor Danielsen worked as a teacher in Glyvrar in 1914. The salmon-farming company Bakkafrost is based in Glyvrar. Bakkafrost is the largest fish farming company in the Faroe Islands and one of the biggest private employers in the islands, if not the biggest. Bakkafrost is the eighth largest fish-farming company in the world.
