Joe Penner
Joe Penner (born József Pintér; November 11, 1904 – January 10, 1941) was an American vaudeville, radio, and film comedian. Early life Penner was an ethnic Hungarian born József Pintér in Nagybecskerek, Austria-Hungary, (present-day Zrenjanin, Serbia). His name was recorded as Josef Pinter on the steerage manifest of the RMS ''Slavonia'', sailing from Fiume, Italy, May 4, and arriving at the Port of New York on May 23, 1907. He was accompanied by his sister, Maria, and their guardian, Istvan Molnar. They settled in Elkhart, Indiana. Vaudeville and burlesque Joe Penner first made his mark in local entertainments in Indiana. In 1917, his acts in which he dressed as Charlie Chaplin earned him 38 cents per week. Thanks to his clowning and "Wanna Buy a Duck?" routine, he was soon in small-time burlesque and vaudeville. The Baker's Broadcast
''The Baker's Broadcast'' is the name applied to three old-time radio variety programs in the United States. The first one went on the air October 8, 1933; the third one's last broadcast was June 26, 1938. The name applied to all three apparently was derived from Fleischmann's Yeast, which sponsored all three programs. Format 1933–1935 Run dates: October 8, 1933 – June 30, 1935 Joe Penner starred in this version, along with Ozzie Nelson and Ozzie's future wife, Harriet Hilliard. Penner's role led to the program's having an alternate unofficial title, ''The Joe Penner Show''. A myocardial infarction (MI), commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to the coronary artery of the heart, causing damage to the heart muscle. The most common symptom is chest pain or discomfort which may travel into the shoulder, arm, back, neck or jaw. Often it occurs in the center or left side of the chest and lasts for more than a few minutes. The discomfort may occasionally feel like heartburn. Other symptoms may include shortness of breath, nausea, feeling faint, a cold sweat or feeling tired. About 30% of people have atypical symptoms. Pee-wee Herman is a comic fictional character created and portrayed by American comedian Paul Reubens. He is best known for his films and television series during the 1980s. The childlike Pee-wee Herman character developed as a stage act that quickly led to an HBO special in 1981. As the stage performance gained further popularity, Reubens took the character to motion picture with '' Pee-wee's Big Adventure'' in 1985, toning down the adult innuendo for the appeal of children. Elizabeth McLeod (born 1963) is a journalist and broadcast historian who lives and works on the coast of Maine. Jack Pearl (born Jack Perlman; October 29, 1894 – December 25, 1982) was a vaudeville performer and a star of early radio. He was best known for his character Baron Munchausen. Vaudeville and early films Born in New York, Pearl debuted as an entertainer in ''School Days'', Gus Edwards's vaudeville act. He made the transition from vaudeville to broadcasting when he introduced his character Baron Munchausen on ''The Ziegfeld Follies of the Air'' in 1932. His creation was loosely based on the Baron Munchausen literary character. As the Baron, Pearl would tell far-fetched stories with a comic German accent. When the straight man (originally Ben Bard, but later Cliff Hall) expressed skepticism, the Baron replied with his familiar tagline and punchline: "Vass you dere, Sharlie?" ''My Green Fedora'' is a 1935 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' animated short film directed by Friz Freleng. The short was released on May 4, 1935. It features a song, "I'm Wearin' My Green Fedora," written by songwriters Al Sherman, Al Lewis, and Joseph Meyer specially for this short. Plot Peter Rabbit is assigned by his mother to babysit his baby brother Elmer. Peter reluctantly does so, though nothing he tries will stop his baby brother from crying. What works is Peter dressing in some old clothes, including a green fedora. He sings a song to match the hat. When Peter is not looking, a weasel snatches the baby and runs off to the tunnels underneath the house. Peter gives chase and manages to take care of both the weasel and Elmer with a garden hose. Isadore "Friz" Freleng (August 21, 1905May 26, 1995), credited as I. Freleng early in his career, was an American animator, cartoonist, director, producer, and composer known for his work at Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons. In total he created more than 300 cartoons. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance), and Speedy Gonzales. ''Vox Pop'' was a popular radio program of interviews, quizzes and human interest features, sometimes titled ''Sidewalk Interviews'' (1936) and ''Voice of the People'' (the name is from the Latin "Vox Populi", meaning "Voice of the People"). It was heard from the early 1930s to the late 1940s. The program was launched in 1932 on KTRH in Houston when advertising salesmen Parks Johnson and Jerry Belcher went into the street with portable microphones to talk to people about the 1932 presidential race between Herbert Hoover and FDR. They continued after the election, and as they developed the premise into a series, it expanded on the Southwest Broadcasting System. Three years later, Johnson and Belcher moved the show to New York and were heard on the Blue Network in 1935 as a summer replacement for Joe Penner.
