Jim White (guitarist)
Michael Davis Pratt (born March 10, 1957), known professionally as Jim White, is an American singer-songwriter, visual artist and author. Early life White was born in California but moved to Pensacola, Florida at the age of 5. He was deeply influenced in his childhood by the spectacle of Pentecostal religion and gospel music. According to various sources, he has been a ditch digger, a suntan oil salesman, a landscaper, a dishwasher, a fry cook, a fashion model, a fashion photographer, a professional surfer and a New York City cab driver. Before embarking on a music career, White attended film school at New York University. Soon after finishing his lengthy thesis at the university, White entered a self-described "deep hole of sickness and depression and poverty". David Eugene Edwards (born February 24, 1968 in Englewood, Colorado) is an American musician. He is the lead singer of Wovenhand, and also the main songwriter and the principal musician on the recordings of the band. He is the former lead singer of 16 Horsepower. Their music contains elements of old-time, folk, punk, medieval, gypsy, Native American music, and most recently late 1980s and early 1990s Gothic Rock. Lyrically, it deals with pain, conflict, faith, and redemption, with Edwards' personal Christian beliefs influencing much of the lyrical imagery. ''Where It Hits You'' is the 2012 album, and 6th solo studio project, by Southern American singer-songwriter and guitarist Jim White. The album was mixed and mastered by John Keane. Guest vocalists on the album include members of the bands Ollabelle, Shak Nasti, and The Heap. There are several guest musicians that helped craft the distinctive and full Alternative Country sound typical of White's productions. The effort and collaboration seems to have been worthwhile, as the album has received numerous favorable critical reviews, just missing the top ten on Exclaim!'s Best Albums of 2012: Folk and Country. White has stated that he went out on his own and produced and financed the record, feeling that there was no one telling him what he had to do after he left the Luaka Bop record label.
