Jim Carney (poet)
Jim Carney is an Irish poet, journalist, and former presenter, best known for ''The Sunday Game''. A native of Parkroe, Milltown, Tuam, and a son of Thomas Carney, he was educated at Milltown National School and Tuam CBS. He is a member of the Tuam Theatre Guild and a journalist with '' The Tuam Herald'', where he has worked alongside subsequent RTÉ western editor Jim Fahy. Carney was later appointed as a journalist and broadcaster with Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), becoming the first presenter of the now landmark Gaelic games show ''The Sunday Game'' in 1979. Preferring to be behind the camera, Carney moved into commentary after two seasons and remained a commentator and reporter for ''The Sunday Game'' until 2010, also working on the channel's live All-Ireland Hurling and Football Finals coverage as a reporter and interviewer, plus taking extra duties when regular-season live coverage was introduced in 1995. Milltown, County Galway
Milltown () is a small village in County Galway, Ireland. It is situated on the banks of the River Clare, 47 km from Galway City, 11 km from Tuam on the N17 road to Sligo. History The parish of Milltown is made up of the two civil parishes of Adergoole and Liskeevy, both of which are of medieval origin. The first historical record of Milltown dates back to 1589. According to historian Hubert Thomas Knox's ''History of Mayo'', Sir Murrogh O'Flaherty and his army came to attack Edward Birmingham. They stormed the castle, burnt half of Milltown and destroyed the castle's corn, but still failed to capture the castle after a bloody battle. Milltown GAA (County Galway)
Milltown (Irish: ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Milltown area in County Galway, Ireland which was established in 1953. The Club is one of the longest established sides in Galway. Milltown are a Gaelic football club. Twice winners of the Galway Senior Football Championship, Milltown made their first appearance in a county final in 20 years when they faced Killererin at Pearse Stadium in 2007, but were defeated by a scoreline of 1-09 to 0-10. Former Texaco Footballer of the Year, Noel Tierney, one of the members of Galway's historic "3 In A Row" team, is one of Milltown's best known players.
