Jesse Farley Dyer
Jesse Farley Dyer (December 2, 1877 –March 31, 1955) was an officer in the United States Marine Corps and a Medal of Honor recipient for his role in the United States occupation of Veracruz. Dyer was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1903, and retired in 1937.USMC History Division He died on March 31, 1955, and is buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California. The United States Army Center of Military History (CMH) is a directorate within the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command. The Institute of Heraldry remains within the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army. The United States occupation of the Mexican port of Veracruz lasted for seven months in 1914 and occurred in the midst of poor diplomatic relations between Mexico and the United States, related to the ongoing Mexican Revolution. In response to the Tampico Affair, President Woodrow Wilson ordered the U.S. Navy to prepare for the occupation of the port of Veracruz. While waiting for authorization of Congress to carry out such action, Wilson was alerted to a German delivery of weapons for Victoriano Huerta due to arrive to the port on April 21. Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is a federal military cemetery in the city of San Diego, California. It is located on the grounds of the former Army coastal artillery station Fort Rosecrans and is administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
