Jeriah Swetland
Jeriah Swetland (April 1817–November 24, 1906) was an American businessman and local politician in nineteenth-century central Ohio.Brown, Robert C. History of Madison County, Ohio'. Chicago: Beers, 1883, 943-944. A native of Springfield, New Hampshire, Swetland was the ninth of ten children born to Roswell and Naomi (Rockwell) Swetland. At the age of nineteen, he left home for an apprenticeship in the Horse tack, harnessmaking and saddlemaking trades. On May 23, 1841, he married the former Arabella Fellows, who bore him three children. Two years later, he left New Hampshire to settle in London, Ohio, where he began to conduct business; between 1847 and 1856, he moved at various times to Pickaway County, Ohio, Pickaway County, Mount Sterling, Ohio, Mount Sterling, and again to London, where he joined in partnership with William Chandler for a ten-year period. Swetland House
The Swetland House is a historic residence in London, Ohio, London, Ohio, United States. Built in 1871, it is one of the city's leading Italianate architecture, Italianate houses, and it was once home to one of London's leading citizens.Owen, Lorrie K., ed. Founding a business with his brother-in-law, he quickly prospered; within a decade, he had become one of the city's richest men. In the late 1860s, he purchased a large tract of undeveloped land southeast of downtown London and platted it for resale; among the houses built in this area was his own, which was completed in 1871.
