Jean Carle (born July 16, 1962)''Canadian Who's Who 2000'', edited by Elizabeth Lumley, Volume XXXV, Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2000 page 207. is a Canadian former civil servant, business executive and Liberal Party operative noted for his close relationship with former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Carle was described by ''Maclean's'' in 1998 as being so close to Chrétien as to be almost a member of the Chrétien family. Carle was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Robert and Gervaise (née Loignon) and was educated successively at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, Collège André-Grasset and the Université de Montréal. The sponsorship scandal, AdScam or Sponsorgate, was a scandal in Canada that came as a result of a federal government " sponsorship program" in the province of Quebec involving the Liberal Party of Canada, which was in power from 1993 to 2006. The program was originally established as an effort to raise awareness of the Government of Canada's contributions to Quebec industries and other activities in order to counter the actions of the Parti Québécois government of the province that worked to promote Quebec independence. The program ran from 1996 until 2004, when broad corruption was discovered in its operations and it was discontinued. Illicit and even illegal activities within the administration of the program were revealed, involving misuse and misdirection of public funds intended for government advertising in Quebec. Lucienne Robillard (born June 16, 1945) is a Canadian politician and a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. She sat in the House of Commons of Canada as the member of Parliament for the riding of Westmount—Ville-Marie in Montreal, Quebec. Robillard had a career as a social worker before entering politics. Charles (Chuck) Guité (born 1943 or 1944 in Dugas, Quebec, on the Gaspé peninsula), raised in Campbellton, New Brunswick, is a former Canadian civil servant, appointed by Brian Mulroney's Progressive Conservative government. Shawinigate was a 1990s Canadian political scandal in which Prime Minister Jean Chrétien was accused of profiting from real estate deals and government policies in his hometown of Shawinigan, Quebec.
