Jean-Luc Vez
Jean-Luc Vez (October 12, 1957 in Fribourg–December 28, 2017 in Fribourg) was a Swiss administrative lawyer. From 2000 to 2014, he was head of the Federal Office of Police of Switzerland. Education Vez studied law at the University of Fribourg and graduated in 1985 with a doctorate of law. He then obtained a diploma in international security studies at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. He was assistant professor at the University of Fribourg from 1981 to 1985. Career From 1986 to 1990, he was a scientific assistant at the now-defunct Directorate of the Central Office for Defense, part of Switzerland's Federal Ministry for Defense. In 1996, he became deputy director of the Federal Office of Police and head of the Legal and Data Protection Department. In 2000, he became head of the Federal Office of Police and remained in this position until 2014. The Federal Office of Police (Fedpol, german: Bundesamt für Polizei, french: Office fédéral de la police, it, Ufficio federale di polizia, rm, Uffizi federal da polizia) of Switzerland is subject to the Federal Department of Justice and Police. It is responsible for the coordination between cantonal police corps and between Swiss and foreign police forces. It also controls the Swiss internal intelligence agency, ''Dienst für Analyse und Prävention'' (DAP; Analysis and Prevention Service) and investigates organised crime, money laundering and terrorism. Fedpol publishes a yearly report on domestic security. The University of Fribourg (french: Université de Fribourg; german: Universität Freiburg) is a public university located in Fribourg, Switzerland. The roots of the university can be traced back to 1580, when the notable Jesuit Peter Canisius founded the Collège Saint-Michel in the City of Fribourg. In 1763, an academy of law was founded by the state of Fribourg which formed the nucleus of the present Law Faculty. The University of Fribourg was finally created in 1889 by an Act of the parliament of the Swiss Canton of Fribourg. The University of Fribourg is Switzerland's only bilingual university and offers full curricula in both French and German, two of Switzerland's national languages.
