Jatiya Press Club
Jatiya Press Club is the professional club for journalists of Bangladesh located in the capital Dhaka. The current president is Farida Yasmin and the General Secretary is Elias Khan. History The Jatiya Press Club was founded in 1954 as the East Pakistan Press Club. It was formed to be run by an elected committee guided by its rules and regulations. The Government of East Pakistan rented out a building at 18 Topkhana Road at a monthly rent of Tk 100 to be used as the press club headquarters. The building before 1947 was a residential house of Dhaka University and was once residence to physicist Satyendra Nath Bose. The first life member of the club was N. M. Khan who was chief secretary of the provincial government. Mujibur Rahman Khan was the first president of the club. Mujibur Rahman Khan
Mujibur Rahman Khan (23 October 1910 – 5 October 1984) was a Bangladeshi journalist, litterateur and politician. Education and career Khan passed the Entrance examination from Anjuman High School in 1928 and Bachelor of Arts in 1934 from Ananda Mohan College in Mymensingh. He then enrolled in the Department of English at Calcutta University but left without completing his master's degree. Career Mujibur Rahman became a headmaster Harua High School in 24 Parganas. Journalism Khan was associated with All Bengal Anti-Fascist Writers' Guild, Bangiya Mussalman Sahitya Samiti, East Pakistan Renaissance Society, Pakistan Arts Council and Bulbul Lalitakala Academy. Farida Yasmin (journalist)
Farida Yasmin (born 1 June 1963) is a Bangladeshi journalist, and President of Jatiya Press Club. She is a former senior journalist of '' The Daily Ittefaq'' and former general secretary of Bangladesh National Press Club. In 2017 she was elected the first female general secretary of Bangladesh Press Club. She was the former joint secretary of National Press Club. Early life and education Her father is Shakhawar Hossain Bhuiyan and her mother is Jahanara Hossain. She was the student of Shibpur Girls High School, Narsingdi. She passed SSC exam from Shibpur Girls High School and HSC exam from Eden Mohila College. Yasmin completed masters from University of Dhaka. Dhaka University
The University of Dhaka (also known as Dhaka University, or DU) is a public research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the oldest university in Bangladesh. The university opened its doors to students on July 1st 1921. Currently it is the largest public research university in Bangladesh, with a student body of 46,150 and a faculty of 1,992. Nawab Bahadur Sir Khwaja Salimullah, who played a pioneering role in establishing the university in Dhaka, donated 600 acres of land from his estate for this purpose. Satyendra Nath Bose
Satyendra Nath Bose (; 1 January 1894 – 4 February 1974) was a Bengali mathematician and physicist specializing in theoretical physics. He is best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, in developing the foundation for Bose statistics and the theory of the Bose condensate. A Fellow of the Royal Society, he was awarded India's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 1954 by the Government of India. The class of particles that obey Bose statistics, bosons, was named after Bose by Paul Dirac. Operation Searchlight
Operation Searchlight was the codename for a planned military operation carried out by the Pakistan Army in an effort to curb the Bengali nationalist movement in former East Pakistan in March 1971. Pakistan retrospectively justified the operation on the basis of anti-Bihari violence carried out en masse by the Bengalis earlier that month. Ordered by the central government in West Pakistan, the original plans envisioned taking control of all of East Pakistan's major cities on 26 March, and then eliminating all Bengali opposition, whether political or military, within the following month. Saiful Alam (journalist)
Saiful Alam (born 1 November 1956) is a Bangladeshi journalist. He is the former President of Bangladesh National Press Club. He is also the editor of Daily Jugantor. Early life Alam was born on 1 November 1956 in Dhaka of the then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) to Ali Arshad Mia and Shamsun Nahar. He completed his Secondary School Certificate from Motijheel Government Boys' High School and Higher Secondary School Certificate from Dhaka College in 1974. He graduated from the Department of Linguistics of Dhaka University in 1977 and obtained his post graduate degree from the same University in 1978.
