Janusz Korczak, the pen name of Henryk Goldszmit (22 July 1878 or 1879 – 7 August 1942), was a Polish Jewish educator, children's author and pedagogue known as ''Pan Doktor'' ("Mr. Doctor") or ''Stary Doktor'' ("Old Doctor"). After spending many years working as a principal of an orphanage in Warsaw, he refused sanctuary repeatedly and stayed with his orphans when the entire population of the institution was sent from the Ghetto to the Treblinka extermination camp during the Grossaktion Warschau of 1942. Biography Korczak was born in Warsaw in 1878. He was unsure of his birth date, which he attributed to his father's failure to promptly acquire a birth certificate for him. Janusz Jakub Waluś ( , ; born 14 January 1953) is a Goral Polish right-wing extremist convicted of the 1993 assassination of Chris Hani, General Secretary of the South African Communist Party and chief of staff of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC). He held dual Polish-South African citizenship from 1986 until his South African citizenship was revoked in 2017. Initially sentenced to death for Hani's murder, Waluś's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, and he was held at C-Max in Pretoria. Waluś was refused parole four times, before the Constitutional Court ordered his release on parole in November 2022. His parole was delayed for nearly a week after he was attacked in prison, and he was released on 7 December 2022. Janusz Szrom (born 16 November 1968 in Grodków) is a Polish jazz vocalist and composer. Biography His musical education started in 1977 on the piano, at Nysa School of Music. Then, in 1981, he started to play on trumpet while continuing to perfect the piano skills, in Chrzanów School of Music. In 1989, after graduating from the Secondary School of Music in Kraków, majoring in trumpet (minor in piano), he first entered John Paul II University to play organ and later (in 1990) matriculated to Musical University in Kraków to study music theory. Janusz Skumin Tyszkiewicz ( lt, Jonušas Skuminas Tiškevičius) (1570–1642) was a noble of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, a politician, a sponsor of Baroque music and a writer (1610+). He held numerous political offices, including voivode of Mścisław (1621–1626), voivode of Trakai (1626–1640) and voivode of Vilnius (1640–1642), as well as starost of Brasławski, Jurbarkas, and Nowy Dwór Gdański in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The son of Teodor Tyszkiewicz and Katarzyna Lacka, he was of the Eastern Catholic faith, and studied abroad at Padua. Around 1595 he married Barbara Naruszewicz (1580–1627), the daughter of Stanisław Naruszewicz. He had one daughter: Katarzyna Eugenia Tyszkiewicz. Janusz Piekałkiewicz (1925 in Warsaw – March 9, 1988) was a Polish underground soldier, historian, writer, as well as a television and cinema director and producer. He was a world-renowned author on many aspects of World War II history; over 30 of his books have been printed, most of them in German, and later translated to other languages. He also wrote from his experiences during the war and specialized in detailing operations within the secret services. A unique characteristic of many of his books is that chapters contain two parts. Firstly, he describes details and contemporary quoted sources and then, in the second part, he provides analysis and his own commentaries to those events. Janusz Pawłowski (born 20 July 1959 in Sopot) is a retired male judoka from Poland. He competed at the 1980 Summer Olympics, and won the bronze medal in the Men's Half-Lightweight (– 65 kg) division. He also competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. There he advanced to the final by defeating Japan's 1987 world champion Yosuke Yamamoto in the semi-final and took the silver medal in the Men's Half-Lightweight (– 65 kg) division after a match with no point earned by either side. Referees' decision in the final gave the win to South Korea's Lee Kyung-Keun. After his retirement from competition judo, he had been working as a national coach in Poland, Kuwait, Italy, and Slovenia. Janusz Olejniczak (; born 2 October 1952 in Wrocław) is a Polish classical pianist and actor. Career Olejniczak began playing piano at the age of six. He studied under Luiza Walewska, Ryszard Bakst and Zbigniew Drzewiecki in Warsaw and Łódź. In 1970, he placed sixth in the VIII International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, and two years later he placed fourth in the Alfredo Casella Piano Competition in Naples. From 1971 to 1973, he studied in Paris under Constantine Schmaeling and Witold Małcużyński, and returned to Poland thereafter to study in the Higher State School of Music in Warsaw under Barbara Hesse-Bukowska. He completed his post-graduate studies from 1977 to 1978 in Essen under Victor Merzhanov and Paul Badura-Skoda.
