James Clark (lynching Victim)
James Clark was an African-American man who was lynched in Eau Gallie, Florida by ten white men in 1926. History On July 11, 1926, James Clark, a chauffeur for a traveling salesman, was accused of rape by a white girl. He was arrested, but the chief of police turned him over to a mob. A noose was placed around his neck, he was dragged over a tree limb, and shot with a shotgun. The street near the site of the lynching, around Parkway Drive and U.S. 1 in what is now Melbourne, Florida was named Lynching Tree Drive until 1980, when the black community petitioned the Melbourne City Council to change the name, which was then changed to Legendary Lane. No attempt was made to determine who murdered Clark without the benefit of a trial. This is the last known lynching in Brevard County. James West Clark
James West Clark (October 15, 1779 – December 20, 1843) was a United States representative from North Carolina. Born in Bertie County to Hannah and Christopher Clark, a successful sea captain and import/export merchant. James Clark graduated from Princeton College in 1797, was a member of the State House of Commons in 1802, 1803 and 1811, and was a presidential elector on the Madison ticket in 1812. He was a member of the North Carolina Senate from 1812 to 1814 and was elected as a Republican to the Fourteenth Congress, serving from March 4, 1815, to March 3, 1817. Clark was appointed chief clerk of the Navy Department by Secretary John Branch and served from 1829 to 1831. He resigned his appointment in protest (as did John Branch) as a result of the Petticoat affair (or Peggy Eaton affair), which rocked Washington society and the Jackson administration. James John Clark (29 July 1870 – 20 January 1936) was a New Zealand politician. He served as mayor of Dunedin from 1915 to 1919. Biography Born in Riverton in 1870, Clark was the youngest son of Presbyterian minister Reverend James Clark, and his wife, Margaret Munro Clark. A few months later, the family moved to Palmerston. Clark moved to Dunedin in 1895, where he remained for the rest of his life. Clark was first elected as a Dunedin city councillor in 1909. He became mayor in 1915, and was the first person to hold the office for four consecutive years. He remained on the city council until 1921, when he did not seek re-election, but again served as a city councillor from 1923 until 1933. Clark twice stood as the Reform Party candidate for the Dunedin North parliamentary seat. In the 1922 Dunedin North by-election, he finished second, 120 votes behind the Labour candidate, Jim Munro. James Dawson Chichester-Clark, Baron Moyola, PC, DL (12 February 1923 – 17 May 2002) was the penultimate Prime Minister of Northern Ireland and eighth leader of the Ulster Unionist Party between 1969 and March 1971. He was Member of the Northern Ireland Parliament for South Londonderry for 12 years, beginning at the by-election to replace his grandmother, Dame Dehra Parker in 1960. James Clark (Ontario Politician)
James Howard Clark (May 11, 1888 – August 25, 1952) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was speaker of the Legislature of Ontario from 1939 to 1943 and served as Liberal MPP for Windsor—Sandwich from 1934 to 1943. He was born in Ingersoll, Ontario. Despite his father's death while he was still young, Clark was able to complete his education at the local high school and went on to attend Victoria College. In 1914, he began the study of law at Osgoode Hall. During World War I, he served with the 96th Lake Superior Battalion and saw action at the Somme, Vimy, Passchendaele, Canal du Nord and Valenciennes. He resumed his legal studies in 1919, articled in Port Arthur, was called to the Ontario bar in 1920 and entered practice in Windsor. James McCosh Clark (12 August 1833 – 26 January 1898) was Mayor of Auckland City in the 1880s. He was a successful businessman until many of his ventures failed during the depression of the 1880s, causing him to return to England for the last decade of his life. He was the son of Archibald Clark. Early life Clark was born in Beith, Scotland, in 1833, the eldest son of the merchant Archibald Clark and his first wife, Margaret McCosh. He was educated at Largs. Archibald Clark decided to emigrate to New Zealand with his third wife and four children; the family left London on the barque ''Thames'' on 18 July 1849 and arrived in Auckland on 25 November. He joined the Volunteer Forces and was a captain in the Invasion of Waikato in 1863.
