The Jamberoo Superoos are an Australian rugby league football team based in Jamberoo, a country town of the Illawarra region. The club is a part of Country Rugby League and have competed in the South Coast first grade competition since its inception in 1914. History The Jamberoo Superoos started life like many other clubs in the area as a Rugby Union team, with players deciding to make the switch in 1913. Eight local clubs created the first South Coast tournament in 1914 of which Jamberoo was apart. The Superoos first ever game was against Kangaroo Valley on 30 May 1914. Jamberoo won the game 3-0. The following year the side won the first of their eight premierships before the tournament's hiatus due to World War I. They won their next premiership in 1927 and in doing so played in the first ever championship between the premiers of the Illawarra and South Coast competitions. Clayton Cup
The Clayton Cup is a trophy that was awarded by the Country Rugby League to the NSW country rugby league team with the best overall record for that season. To be eligible, the team must win the highest level of competition in its region. Usually the winner of the Clayton Cup goes through the season undefeated. In late 2019, the Country Rugby League was absorbed by the New South Wales Rugby League. The Cup was donated by Reub Clayton, an early rugby league administrator in country NSW. The cup was first awarded in 1937 to West Tamworth. Since then, the Tweed Heads Seagulls, Grafton Ghosts, North Tamworth Bears and Cobar Roosters have been the most successful clubs, each winning the trophy three times. The South Sydney Rabbitohs are a professional Australian rugby league club based in Redfern, a suburb of inner-southern Sydney, New South Wales. They participate in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership and are one of nine existing teams from the state capital, Sydney. They are often called Souths or The Bunnies. The Kiama Knights are an Australian rugby league football team based in Kiama, a coastal town of the Illawarra and South Coast regions. The club was formed in 1914 as one of the founding members of South Coast Rugby League, and continue to participate in this league's local competition. History On 30 May 1914, Kiama kicked off the inaugural South Coast Rugby League competition with a 6–3 home win at Kiama Showground against nearest neighbour and soon to be biggest rivals, Gerringong. Gerringong, however, would go on to take out the premiership final with an 11–10 victory at the Kiama Showground, a match that would charge a sixpence to attend. Kiama won their first premiership in August 1925, defeating Kangaroo Valley in a final. In 1930, Kiama merged with Bombo and they won the title that year. ''The Nowra Leader'' was an English language newspaper published between 1909 and 1969 in Nowra, New South Wales, Australia. It continued ''The Leader and Shoalhaven District Newspaper'' and was merged with the ''Nowra and Shoalhaven News'' to form the ''Nowra News Leader''. History ''The Leader and Shoalhaven District Newspaper'' was founded by Thomas Charles Kennedy. It was first published in 1893 and ceased publication on 27 August 1909. It was continued by ''The Nowra Leader'', which was launched on 3 September 1909 by publisher Herbert James Connolly. After Connolly's death in 1944, his sister Florence A. History The Port Kembla District Rugby League Football Club first entered the local rugby league competition in 1914, fielding a Third Grade team. The club wore an all-dark green jersey, playing on a home ground which was a section of the old golf links (the original Port Kembla Golf Club), located near Hill 60. Jamberoo is a village on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia in the Municipality of Kiama. It is approximately 11.3 km inland from Kiama. At the , Jamberoo had a population of 1,667. The town's name is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'track'. It is well known for the Jamberoo Action Park, Jamberoo Hotel, a pub, and the local dairy-farming community. The Australian Illawarra Shorthorn cattle breed originated in the area. Jamberoo is the birthplace of politician Joseph Cullen. Illawarra Rugby League
The Illawarra Rugby League is a rugby league competition in Wollongong, NSW. It is one of the oldest rugby league competitions in Australia, founded in 1911 with five clubs (Dapto, Helensburgh, Mount Keira, Unanderra and Wollongong). The area provides a nursery of juniors for the Illawarra Steelers and St George Illawarra Dragons. The season is contested by seven teams and concludes with a finals series involving the top four teams. History Only the Northern parts of the Illawarra have traditionally been included in this competition, with teams further south playing in Group 7.
