Jack Brewer (musician)
Joaquin "Jack" Brewer is an American musician known as the singer and lyricist for the Los Angeles post-hardcore band Saccharine Trust which he cofounded with guitarist Joe Baiza. Biography Brewer was born in Havana, Cuba in 1958. As a child, his family moved often living in New Orleans, San Pedro, Harbor City, and Wilmington. Brewer began playing guitar in his early teens His first band was called The Obstacles which played new wave pop. Brewer met Joe Baiza in Wilmington one summer and Baiza began attending band rehearsals. Baiza joined the band as bass player and slowly started moving the band from a pop sound to something more punk. One by one band members left until it was just Brewer and Baiza. After spending almost a year attempting to put together a new lineup which included a failed audition by Mike Watt, the freshly renamed Saccharine Trust played their first gig in 1980 with Minutemen. ''Hunky Dory'' is the fourth studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 17December 1971 through RCA Records. Following the release of his 1970 album, '' The Man Who Sold the World'', Bowie took time off from recording and touring. He settled down to write new songs, composing on piano rather than guitar as on earlier tracks. Following a tour of the United States, Bowie assembled a new backing band consisting of guitarist Mick Ronson, bassist Trevor Bolder and drummer Mick Woodmansey, and began to record a new album in mid-1971 at Trident Studios in London. Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. ''The Way Things Work'' is the debut album by American improvisational band Unknown Instructors, featuring Mike Watt ( Minutemen, fIREHOSE, The Stooges, Dos, Banyan), George Hurley (Minutemen, Firehose, Red Krayola), Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust, Universal Congress Of), Jack Brewer (Saccharine Trust), and poet Dan McGuire. The album was created and recorded on the spot in one day in 2003 at Karma Studio in San Pedro, California. Watt would record his third solo album ''The Secondman's Middle Stand'' in the same studio five months later. McGuire credited the Saccharine Trust album '' Worldbroken'' as an influence saying he wanted to use it "as a template for that first album." George Hurley
George Hurley (born September 4, 1958) is a drummer noted for his work with Minutemen and fIREHOSE. Music career Early years Originally from the East Coast, Hurley and his family moved to San Pedro, California, when he was six years old. Hurley was a surfer before devoting himself to music. A self-taught musician, Hurley created his own drumsticks out of Plexiglas and wood at the Boys Club in his youth. He got his first drumkit when he was nineteen after trading a motorcycle for it. Although he is known as a punk drummer, Hurley's musical influences are primarily jazz-based. Even though he went to the same high school as D. Boon and Mike Watt he did not meet them until around 1978. That same year, Hurley formed The Reactionaries with Boon, Watt, and Martin Tamburovich. Unknown Instructors
Unknown Instructors are an all-star improvisational rock outfit that features the former rhythm section of Minutemen and fIREHOSE, bassist Mike Watt and drummer George Hurley; Saccharine Trust members, guitarist Joe Baiza and vocalist Jack Brewer; and vocalist/saxophonist Dan McGuire. They have been described as "an all-star reunion of alumni from the SST stable of yore" and Henry Rollins called it a dream lineup. Their first album, ''The Way Things Work'', was released in late September 2005 by Smog Veil Records. In October 2005, they returned to the studio to record a second album, this time with Pere Ubu's David Thomas and artist Raymond Pettibon as added participants. The finished product, '' The Master's Voice'', was released in March, 2007. A third album, ''Funland'', followed in 2009. Bazooka (band)
Bazooka was an American musical band active in the early 1990s, led by saxophonist Tony Atherton, bass guitarist Bill Crawford and drummer Vince Meghrouni. Their music could be broadly classified as jazz, but also touched on other styles. All their albums were released by SST Records. The first line-up was Meghrouni, Crawford and Atherton. This lineup of Bazooka record three albums: ''Perfectly Square'', ''Blowhole'', and ''Cigars, Oyster and Booze''. Before their recordings for the SST label, Bazooka made a cassette tape for sale at live gigs. Many of the songs appeared on their later albums, and were probably sketches at the time in development.
