Julius Flohr
Julius Flohr (11 February 1837 – 8 February 1896) was a German banker and entomologist resident in Mexico. Early life Flohr was born in Hamburg, in what was then the German Confederation, on 11 February 1837. He was educated there and in England. Banking career In 1859, Flohr moved to Mexico City to work as a banker. In 1862, he joined Esteban Benecke & Co., a bank in which he became a life-long partner. Benecke was the Prussian consul and one of Mexico's first bankers. Entomological pursuits Flohr retired from day-to-day banking in 1877 and devoted himself to the study of insects, especially beetles. Interest in comparative anatomy remained high following the publication of Darwin's ''On the Origin of Species'', and Flohr's field work was cited extensively in the ''Biologia Centrali-Americana'' encyclopedia. Berlin Zoological Museum
The Natural History Museum (german: Museum für Naturkunde) is a natural history museum located in Berlin, Germany. It exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history and in such domain it is one of three major museums in Germany alongside '' Naturmuseum Senckenberg'' in Frankfurt and '' Museum Koenig'' in Bonn. The museum houses more than 30 million zoological, paleontological, and mineralogical specimens, including more than ten thousand type specimens. Ernst Gustav Kraatz
Ernst Gustav Kraatz (13 March 1831 – 2 November 1909) was a German entomologist. He collected and described numerous beetles including Staphylinidae. Kraatz was born in Berlin on 13 March 1831. He studied law in the University of Heidelberg and at the University of Bonn but found no interest in it and through the influence of Carl August Dohrn he shifted to study entomology at the University of Berlin and later became was a professor. He was mainly interested in Coleoptera Beetles are insects that form the order Coleoptera (), in the superorder Endopterygota. George Charles Champion
George Charles Champion (29 April 1851 – 8 August 1927) was an English entomologist specialising in the study of beetles. He was born in Walworth, South London, and the eldest son of George Champion. Biography Encouraged by J. Platt-Barret, G. C. Champion began collecting beetles when he was 16. Champion's initial work was mainly in the Home Counties. Recognized as a serious coleopterist, he accepted a post as collector for Frederick DuCane Godman and Osbert Salvin to work on ''Biologia Centrali-Americana''. Champion left England in February 1879 for Guatemala, where he arrived on 16 March into Puerto San José on the Pacific. He then commenced several years of journeying with intensive specimen collecting, until 7 April 1881 when he travelled by boat to Panama.
