Judy (satirical Magazine)
''Judy'' was a British satirical humour magazine of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The full name was ''Judy; or the London Serio-Comic Journal''. The magazine's first issue was cover dated 1 May 1867, and the last issue 23 October 1907. The name "Judy" was in reference to Punch and Judy, and alluded directly to its more established rival, '' Punch'' magazine, which had been founded in 1841. In its 14 August 1867, issue, ''Judy'' introduced " Ally Sloper", who was one of the first – possibly ''the'' first – recurring comic strip characters (the seminal Yellow Kid, for instance, was not published until almost three decades later, in 1895). Sloper was later the first comic strip character to get his own regular weekly magazine, '' Ally Sloper's Half Holiday'', the first issue having a cover date of May 3, 1884. Sloper was heavily merchandised, and may have been the first comic strip character featured in a popular song ("Ally Sloper's Christmas Holidays", 1886) or a ...

Judy Array
In computer science, a Judy array is an early-2000s Hewlett-Packard hand-optimized implementation of a 256-ary radix tree that uses many situational node types to reduce latency from CPU cache-line fills.Alan Silverstein,Judy IV Shop Manual, 2002 As a compressed radix tree, a Judy array can store potentially sparse integer- or string-indexed data with comparatively low memory usage and low read latency, without relying on hashing or tree balancing, and without sacrificing in-order traversal. Per-operation latency scales as O(\log n)—as expected of a tree—and the leading constant factor is small enough that Judy arrays are suitable even to the peta-element range. When applicable, they can be faster than implementations of AVL trees, B-trees, hash tables, or skip lists from the same time period. History The Judy array was invented by Douglas Baskins over the years leading up to 2002 and named after his sister. Node types Broadly, tree nodes in Judy arrays fall into one of three ...

It continued in these pages until the death of Pál on September 11, 1970. There were over 500 comic strips in total. Nine strips of Jucika were printed in the East-German magazine ''Freie Welt''. British Slang
While some slang words and phrases are used throughout Britain (e.g. ''knackered'', meaning "exhausted"), others are restricted to smaller regions, even to small geographical areas. The nations of the United Kingdom, which are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, all have their own slang words, as does London. London slang has many varieties, the best known of which is rhyming slang. English-speaking nations of the former British Empire may also use this slang, but also incorporate their own slang words to reflect their different cultures. Not only is the slang used by British expats, but some of these terms are incorporated into other countries' everyday slang, such as in Australia, Canada and Ireland. British slang has been the subject of many books, including a seven volume dictionary published in 1889. Lexicographer Eric Partridge published several works about British slang, most notably ''A Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English'', revised and edited by Paul ...

Judy's
Judy's was a chain of clothing stores, based in Van Nuys, Los Angeles. Marcia Israel (Mrs. Lawrence Israel, later Marcia Israel-Curley) founded Judy's in 1946 and ran it until 1989 when she sold it to Laws International of Hong Kong for $31 million. Israel-Curley died in 2004. Fashion Judy's sold sportswear and fashion accessories, the women's stores catering to juniors: slim-cut, trendy styles. In the late 1940s, Israel wrote, there were generally no boutiques catering exclusively for juniors and hardly any clothing companies producing styles for the juniors market. Israel wrote that she developed numerous groundbreaking concepts that were copied by other designers and retailers, such as the short-sleeve sweater and workmen's five-pocket jeans for casual use (accessorized with Ked's sneakers) by women. Israel was long considered a fashion authority; for example a 1970 interview in the Los Angeles Times around the topic of longer hemlines for women's skirts. Israel con ...
