Jakob Jud
Jakob Jud [ju:t] (12 January 1882 in Wängi, Kanton Thurgau – 15 June 1952 in Seelisberg, Kanton Canton of Uri, Uri) was a Swiss people, Swiss Romance languages, Romance linguistics, linguist (Romance studies, Romanist). From 1922 to 1950 he taught classes in Romance philology and Old French literature at the University of Zürich. With Karl Jaberg, he was the author of ''Sprach- und Sachatlas Italiens und der Südschweiz'' (8 volumes, 1928–40). In 1936, with Arnald Steiger, he founded the magazine ''Vox Romanica''. He became a foreign member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1946. Jud Simons
Judikje "Jud" Simons (20 August 1904 – 20 March 1943) was a Dutch Jewish gymnast who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1928 she was chosen as a reserve member of the Dutch gymnastics team and won the gold medal with her teammates. The team was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. She was born in The Hague and was murdered in Sobibor extermination camp together with her husband Bernard, their five-year-old daughter Sonja and their three-year-old son Leon. Background In 1979, King was writer-in-residence at the University of Maine and the house his family was renting in Orrington, Maine, was adjacent to a major road where dogs and cats were often killed by oncoming trucks. After his daughter's cat was killed by a truck along that road, he explained the death of the pet to his daughter and buried the cat. Three days later, King imagined what would happen if a family suffered the same tragedy but the cat came back to life. Jud Yalkut (;1938–2013) was an experimental film and video maker and intermedia artist. Personal life Jud Yalkut was born in New York City in 1938. In 1973, he moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he lived until his death at the age of 75 in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 23, 2013. He was married to Peg Rice. Career Yalkut attended McGill University, Montreal, where he studied poetry, before returning to his place of birth, New York, to take up film-making. Ernest Judson Wilson (February 28, 1894 – June 24, 1963), nicknamed "Boojum", was an American third baseman, first baseman, and manager in Negro league baseball. He played for the Baltimore Black Sox, the Homestead Grays, and the Philadelphia Stars between 1922 and 1945. Wilson was known for possessing a unique physique, a quick temper, and outstanding hitting skills. One of the Negro leagues' most powerful hitters, his career batting average of .351 ranks him among the top five players. Judson Albert Timm (August 28, 1906 – December 23, 1994) was a college football player and coach. A native of Twin Falls, Idaho, he played for Robert Zuppke's Illinois Fighting Illini football teams at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where he was a prominent halfback and a member of its 1927 national championship team. Timm scored in the Michigan game that year; and was an All-Big Ten Conference selection. Timm served as the head football coach at Pennsylvania Military College—now known as Widener University—from 1930 to 1938 and at Moravian College from 1939 to 1941, compiling a career college football coaching record of 52–43–11. He was also the head basketball coach at Pennsylvania Military from 1930 to 1936 and again in 1937–38, tallying a mark of 58–54.
