Joywave
Joywave is an American band from Rochester, New York, formed in 2010. Their lineup consists of Daniel Armbruster (vocals), Joseph Morinelli (guitar), and Paul Brenner (drums). The band first became known for its collaboration with electronic music project Big Data (band), Big Data, "Dangerous (Big Data song), Dangerous". After releasing two EPs, their debut album, ''How Do You Feel Now?'', was released through their own Cultco Music label, an imprint of Hollywood Records, in 2015. Their second album, ''Content (Joywave album), Content'', was released on July 28, 2017. It was followed by their third album, ''Possession (Joywave album), Possession'', which was released on March 13, 2020. ''Cleanse'' is the fourth studio album by American indie rock band Joywave. It was released February 11, 2022, through Cultco Music and Hollywood Records. Four singles were released prior to the album: "After Coffee", "Every Window Is a Mirror", "Cyn City 2000", and "Buy American". The EP ''Every Window Is a Mirror'' was also released prior to the album on June 25, 2021. It contained "After Coffee" and "Every Window Is a Mirror", as well as two new songs: "Pray for the Reboot" and "The Inversion". ''Content'' () is the second studio album by American indie rock band Joywave, released through Cultco Music and Hollywood Records on July 28, 2017. The album is a follow-up to the band's debut full-length, '' How Do You Feel Now?'', which was released in 2015. It was co-produced by band members Daniel Armbruster and Sean Donnelly and was recorded during 2016. Ahead of the album's release, five singles were released to promote the album: "Content", "It's a Trip!", "Shutdown", "Doubt", and "Going to a Place". Background and recording Joywave previously released '' How Do You Feel Now?'', their debut album, in 2015. Following up the record, the band began recording a new album in 2016. ''Possession'' is the third studio album by American indie rock band Joywave. It was released on March 13, 2020, through their own Cultco Music label and Hollywood Records. The album was supported by five singles prior to release; "Blastoffff", "Like a Kennedy", "Obsession", "Blank Slate", and "Half Your Age". Recording and composition Joywave recorded ''Possession'' at their studio in Rochester, New York. It was produced by band frontman Daniel Armbruster and mixed by Dan Grech-Marguerat. The recording of the album saw the band return to incorporating samples of audio into their songs. ''How Do You Feel Now?'' is the debut studio album by American indie rock band Joywave, released through Cultco Music and Hollywood Records on April 21, 2015. The album is a follow-up to the band's second extended play, ''How Do You Feel?'', which was released earlier in 2014. It was co-produced by band members Daniel Armbruster and Sean Donnelly and was recorded during 2013 and 2014. Four official singles were released from the album: " Tongues", " Somebody New", "Destruction", and "Now". Background and composition Joywave was signed to a record label and composed the album following the break-through success of the single " Dangerous", written by member Daniel Armbruster with Alan Wilkis in the band Big Data. "Destruction" is a song by American indie rock band Joywave. It was released as a single from their debut studio album, '' How Do You Feel Now?'', on March 30, 2015. A music video for the song was released on January 13, 2016 through YouTube. "Destruction" peaked at number 18 on the '' Billboard'' Alternative Songs chart and was featured on the soundtrack for the video games '' Madden NFL 16'' and the 2015 ''Need for Speed'' reboot. ''Permanent Pleasure'' is the fifth studio album by American indie rock band Joywave. It was released on May 17, 2024, through their own Cultco Music label and Hollywood Records. The album was supported by two singles prior to release, "Brain Damage" and "Scared". Background and recording In an interview with Atwood Magazine, frontman Daniel Armbruster said Joywave spent more time working on ''Permanent Pleasure'' than any of their previous albums. The opening and closing tracks of the album sample messages by former mayor Thomas P. Ryan Jr. and the song "Rochester is a Grand Old City" from ''The Rochester Sesquicentennial'', a 1984 album commemorating the 150th anniversary of the city's founding. Armbruster decided to use the samples after finding a copy at a local thrift store.
