Joshua Rose (engineer)
Joshua Rose (ca. 1845 – ca. 1910) was an American mechanical engineer, inventor, engineering journalist and early American writer on management. Rose is known for his contributions to the professional literature of mechanical engineering, specifically on tools and machine shop methods and practice. Hutton, Frederick Remsen, ed. Life and work Probably born, raised and educated as mechanical engineer in New York City, Rose filled his first patent for a rock drill on 1869. In the 1870s he started writing on mechanical engineering, publishing one of his first articles in ''Scientific American'' in 1875, entitled "Practical Mechanism." In the late 1880s Rose moved to England, where he settled in Twickenham, 10 miles southwest of the centre of London. Coleman Sellers II (January 28, 1827 – December 28, 1907) was a prominent American engineer, chief engineer of William Sellers & Co., professor of mechanics at the Franklin Institute, professor of engineering practice at Stevens Institute of Technology and inventor. He obtained more than thirty letters-patent for inventions of his own, and served as president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers from 1886 to 1887. Biography Early life Sellers was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania as the youngest son of Coleman and Sophonisba (Peale) Sellers and a direct descendant of Samuel Sellers, who in 1682 received one of the first grants of land in Pennsylvania.
