Josh Joplin Group
Josh Joplin Group was an Atlanta, Georgia-based rock band led by singer-songwriter Josh Joplin. Initially a trio, Joplin hired Geoff Melkonian (bass/viola/vocals) and Jason Buecker (drums/percussion/vocals) to accompany him to play shows together. They simply called themselves Josh Joplin Band. In late 1995 they began pre-production on their first album together. Recorded at Furies Studios with producer Ed Burdell (Magnapop), Projector Head was released, January 6, 1996. Based on local critical success and some airplay on local radio Joplin, Buecker, and Melkonian, began touring vigorously, starting in the south, continuing through the northeast, and beyond. ''Boxing Nostalgic'' was their self produced sophomore effort. Roxy Theatre (Atlanta)
The Roxy Theatre was a movie palace in Atlanta, Georgia. It was notable for showcasing the original Atlanta runs of such films as ''Spartacus'', the 1962 ''The Music Man'', the Technicolor ''Mutiny on the Bounty'' with Marlon Brando, and ''My Fair Lady''. It was torn down in 1972 to make way for the Westin Peachtree Plaza, the hotel that was prominently featured in the 1981 film ''Sharky's Machine''. It should not be confused with the Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre, originally the Buckhead Theatre, a different building in Buckhead. The Buckhead Theatre subsequently became the Capri Theatre and later closed, re-opening in 2010 under its original name Buckhead Theatre. Sidney Matthew Sweet (born October 6, 1964) is an American alternative rock/ power pop singer-songwriter and musician who was part of the burgeoning music scene in Athens, Georgia, during the 1980s before gaining commercial success in the 1990s as a solo artist. Indigo Girls are an American folk rock music duo from Atlanta, Georgia, United States, consisting of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. The two met in elementary school and began performing together as high school students in Decatur, Georgia, part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Too Pure was a London-based independent record label formed in 1990 by Richard Roberts and Paul Cox. The label gained prominence after the release of PJ Harvey's debut album ''Dry'' in 1992, and subsequently found further success in the late 1990s and early 2000s with albums by indie rock artists such as Mclusky and Electrelane. Seely (band)
Seely was a dream pop band from Atlanta, Georgia formed in 1994. They released four albums before disbanding in 2000. History Seely was founded by two architecture students, Steven Satterfield (vocals, guitar) and Lori Scacco (guitar). The duo eventually added Joy Waters (vocals, bass) and Eric Taylor (drums), and recorded their debut album, ''Parentha See'', for the Atlanta-based Third Eye Records label in 1995. Almost immediately, they signed with the British record label Too Pure, becoming the first American band to do so. ''Useful Music'' is a studio album initially released in May 1999 under the SMG Records label by Josh Joplin Band, and again in January 2001 through Artemis Records after the band had renamed itself Josh Joplin Group following a change in its line-up. While the album did not enjoy widespread commercial success, it peaked at #22 on the ''Billboard'' Independent Albums chart and spawned a moderate hit with its first single, "Camera One", which quickly reached #1 on the Triple A airplay chart, the highest position ever achieved by an independent release at that point (February 2001).
