The Joseph Jefferson House, also known as the Rip Van Winkle House and Gardens, the Live Oak Gardens, and the Bob Acres Plantation, is a historic house built in 1870 on Lake Peigneur, Jefferson Island in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. The Joseph Jefferson House was built in 1870 for Joseph Jefferson, an American stage and silent film actor. The house has been on the National Register of Historic Places list since June 4, 1973. Lake Peigneur
Lake Peigneur is a brackish lake in the U.S. state of Louisiana, north of Delcambre and west of New Iberia, near the northernmost tip of Vermilion Bay. With a maximum depth of , it is the deepest lake in Louisiana. Its name comes from the French word "peigneur", meaning "one who combs." Previously, it had been a freshwater lake, popular for recreation, until human activity caused an unusual disaster on November 20, 1980, that changed its structure and the surrounding land. Bob Acres is a small unincorporated community in rural Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States. Jean Laffite
Jean Lafitte ( – ) was a French pirate, privateer, and slave trader who operated in the Gulf of Mexico in the early 19th century. He and his older brother Pierre spelled their last name Laffite, but English language documents of the time used "Lafitte". This has become the common spelling in the United States, including places named after him. Lafitte is believed to have been born either in Biarritz, in the French Basque Country, France, or the French colony of Saint-Domingue in the Caribbean. By 1805, Lafitte was operating a warehouse in New Orleans to help distribute the goods smuggled by his brother Pierre Lafitte. The United States government passed the Embargo Act of 1807 as tensions built with the United Kingdom by prohibiting trade. Hurricane Lili was the second costliest, deadliest, and most intense hurricane of the 2002 Atlantic hurricane season, only surpassed by Hurricane Isidore, which affected the same areas around a week before Lili. Lili was the twelfth named storm, fourth hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 2002 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm developed from a tropical disturbance in the open Atlantic on September 21. It continued westward, affecting the Lesser Antilles as a tropical storm, then entered the Caribbean. Iberia Parish (, ) is a Parish (administrative division), parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, it had a population of 69,929; the parish seat is New Iberia, Louisiana, New Iberia.
