Josef Von Sternberg
Josef von Sternberg (; born Jonas Sternberg; May 29, 1894 – December 22, 1969) was an American filmmaker whose career successfully spanned the transition from the Silent film, silent to the Sound film, sound era, during which he worked with most of the major Hollywood studios. He is best known for his film collaboration with actress Marlene Dietrich in the 1930s, including the highly regarded Paramount/UFA production ''The Blue Angel'' (1930). Sternberg's finest works are noteworthy for their striking pictorial compositions, dense décor, chiaroscuro illumination, and relentless camera motion, endowing the scenes with emotional intensity. He is also credited with having initiated the gangster film genre with his silent era movie ''Underworld (1927 film), Underworld'' (1927). Dishonored (film)
''Dishonored'' is a 1931 American pre-Code romantic spy film directed and edited by Josef von Sternberg, who also co-wrote the film with Daniel N. Rubin. It was produced and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film stars Marlene Dietrich, Victor McLaglen, Gustav von Seyffertitz, and Warner Oland, and follows a female spy (Dietrich) for Austria-Hungary during World War I. Costume design was provided by Travis Banton, in one of his several collaborations with Dietrich. Plot The story opens in 1915 on the streets of Vienna, Austria, in war-torn Europe. Hugo Ballin
Hugo Ballin (March 7, 1879 – November 27, 1956) was an American artist, muralist, author, and film director. Ballin was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the National Academy of Design. Biography Ballin was born in New York City and studied at the Art Students League of New York. When the Wisconsin State Capital was built in the early 20th century, Ballin created 26 murals for its interior. In 1917, he began working for Goldwyn Pictures in New Jersey as an art director and production designer, and in 1921, he moved to Los Angeles at the request of Samuel Goldwyn. Erich Oswald Hans Carl Maria von Stroheim (born Erich Oswald Stroheim, ; September 22, 1885 – May 12, 1957) was an Austrian-American director, screenwriter, actor, and producer, most noted as a film star and avant-garde, visionary director of the silent era. Elliott Dexter (March 29, 1870 – June 21, 1941) was an American film and stage actor. He started his career in vaudeville and did not move to films until he was 45. He retired from acting in 1925. Biography Dexter was born in Galveston, Texas. He married silent film actress Marie Doro in 1915. However, the union was brief and the couple soon divorced, having had no children. Dexter died in Amityville, New York, aged 71. A nobiliary particle is a type of onomastic particle used in a surname or family name in many Western cultures to signal the nobility of a family.
