Joko Pinurbo
Philipus Joko Pinurbo (11 May 1962 – 27 April 2024), commonly known by the nickname Jokpin, was an Indonesian poet. His works were deemed innovative for their use of humour and everyday objects, as well as simple language, to touch on contemporary social issues. His poems, which are spread amongst various media as well as over a dozen collections, have been described as amongst the most widely read of Indonesian poetry. Life and career Joko Pinurbo was born on 11 May 1962 in Sukabumi, West Java, as the son of an elementary school teacher. After completing his elementary school education in Sukabumi, he moved to Sleman, where he completed his secondary education at the SMP Sanjaya Babadan. While attending the Peter Canisius Minor Seminary Mertoyudan in Magelang, he began writing poetry. His early influences included Sapardi Djoko Damono and Y. B. Mangunwijaya. Surakarta (Javanese script, Javanese: , Pegon script, Pegon: ), known colloquially as Solo (Javanese script, Javanese: ; ), is a major List of regencies and cities of Indonesia, city in Central Java, Indonesia. Agency For Language Development And Cultivation
The Agency for Language Development and Cultivation (), formerly the Language and Book Development Agency () and the Language Centre (), is the institution responsible for standardising and regulating the Indonesian language as well as maintaining the indigenous languages of Indonesia. It is an agency under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of Indonesia. Harry Aveling
Harry Aveling (born 1942 in Sydney) is an Australian scholar, translator and teacher. He specialises in Indonesian and Malaysian literature, and Translation Studies. He received the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy in Malay Studies from the National University of Singapore and Doctor of Creative Arts (DCA) from the University of Technology, Sydney. Besides his academic writing, he has translated extensively from Indonesian and Malay, from Vietnamese Francophone literature, and also co-translated from Hindi. He has been awarded the ''Anugerah Pengembangan Sastra'' (Literature Development Award) for his translation work. Aveling has two sons, a daughter and five granddaughters. The Lontar Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Jakarta, Indonesia, was founded in 1987 by four Indonesian writers: Goenawan Mohamad, Sapardi Djoko Damono, Umar Kayam, and Subagio Sastrowardoyo, and the American translator John H. ''Bernas'' is an online-only newspaper, formerly a daily newspaper, based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It was one of the first newspapers founded after Indonesian independence. History ''Bernas'' was founded on 15 September 1946 as ''Harian Umum Nasional'' by Soemanang Soerjowinoto. Its original editorial board consisted of Soemanang, Mashoed Hardjokoesoemo, Bob Maemun, Marbangoen, Mohammad Soepadi, Darsyaf Rahman, and RM Soetio.
