John Merritt (editor)
John Merritt (1920-1999) was a British film and television editor, writer, and director. He was born on 9 June 1920 in London. He died at the age of 79 on 6 July 1999 in Bristol, England. While John Merritt has a list of 20 credits on IMDb in all three of the categories listed above, he is most famous for his work as an editor. Notable Works Merritt's first major work came in 1963 on John Boorman's 5 part docuseries ''Citizen 63'' (1963) this series was produced by BBC West, and followed five British individuals "as they confronted and conformed to the problems and pressures of everyday life in Britain in 1963." According to the book "The Cinema of John Boorman" this docu series was "the most popular and influential of Boorman's BBC projects." This early work helped Merritt to cultivate a good relationship with Boorman. ''Grass Roots'' is an Australian television series produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation between 2000 and 2003. Synopsis The series is set around the fictional Arcadia Waters Council (LGA) near Sydney, and was primarily a satirical look at the machinations of local government. It was written by Geoffrey Atherden. Production Part of the series was filmed in the inner west Sydney suburb of Concord. Many external shots of Arcadia waters Council chambers used Concord Council Chambers as a setting. The Council Chambers themselves (external shots, and the "Site Shed" Scenes, plus a couple of other external scenes were filmed in a Factory at the end of Mars Road Lane Cove. ''The Angel Who Pawned Her Harp'' is a 1954 British fantasy comedy film directed by Alan Bromly and starring Felix Aylmer, Diane Cilento and Jerry Desmonde. The film was based on a novel by Charles Terrot and is a remake of his television play broadcast in 1951. It was shot in black and white at Beaconsfield Studios with location shooting around Islington in London. The film's sets were designed by the art director Ray Simm. It was remade as a West German film of the same title in 1959. Premise A beautiful blonde angel (Diane Cilento) arrives in Islington in London on a goodwill mission to soften the heart of pawnbroker Joshua Webman (Felix Aylmer) who specialises in old musical instruments.
