John Leventhorpe
John Leventhorpe ( 1370 – 1435), of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire and Ugley, Essex, was an English politician and one of the executors of both Henry IV's and Henry V's wills. Life Leventhorpe was born in Yorkshire in 1370. He was the son and heir of Robert Leventhorpe of Leventhorpe Hall and Swillington, Yorks. Leventhorpe's mother was named Isabel. By November 1392, he had married Katherine Riley (died 1437), with whom he fathered four sons. He died in November 1435, after making his will on 29 January 1435, and was buried in Sawbridgeworth. His son Robert, who predeceased him, became member for Hertfordshire in 1425. His son and heir John also became member for Hertfordshire in 1467. On the floor of the south chapel of Great St Mary's church in Sawbridgeworth are brass figures, said to be of John Leventhorpe and his wife, with the arms of France and England quartered but with no inscription. Sawbridgeworth
Sawbridgeworth (traditionally or , now also ) is a town and civil parishes in England, civil parish in Hertfordshire, England, close to the border with Essex. It is east of Hertford and north of Epping, Essex, Epping. It is the northernmost part of the Greater London Built-up Area. History Prior to the Norman conquest of England, Norman conquest, most of the area was owned by the Anglo-Saxons, Anglo-Saxon Angmar the Staller. The Manor of "Sabrixteworde" (one of the many spellings previously associated with the town) was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. After the Battle of Hastings it was granted to Geoffrey de Mandeville (11th century), Geoffrey de Mandeville I by William the Conqueror. Thomas Langley
Thomas Langley ( – 20 November 1437) was an English prelate who held high ecclesiastical and political offices in the early to mid-15th century. He was Dean of York, Bishop of Durham, twice Lord Chancellor of England to three kings, and a Pseudocardinal. In turn Keeper of the King's signet and Keeper of the Privy Seal before becoming de facto England's first Foreign Secretary. He was the second longest serving Chancellor of the Middle Ages. Life Langley was born around 1363 in Middleton, Lancashire, the third son of Alice and William Langley. In 1375 he was sent to St Mary's Abbey, Thetford, a feeder for Corpus Christi in Cambridge. Langley attended this college until it was ransacked and destroyed by poll tax rioters on 15 June 1381. Langley returned to Middleton and in 1385 he was appointed rector of Radcliffe and collated as Archdeacon of Norfolk in 1399. The Leventhorpe Baronetcy, of Shingey (or Shingle) Hall in the County of Hertford, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 30 May 1622 for John Leventhorpe. He was the son of Sir Edward Leventhorpe and Mary Parker, daughter of Henry Parker, 11th Baron Morley. The title became extinct on the death of the fifth Baronet in 1680. Knight of the shire () was the formal title for a member of parliament (MP) representing a county constituency in the British House of Commons, from its origins in the medieval Parliament of England until the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885 ended the practice of each county (or ''shire'') forming a single constituency.
