John Baillie McIntosh
John Baillie McIntosh (June 6, 1829 – June 29, 1888) was a Union Army brigadier general during the American Civil War. His brother, James M. McIntosh, served as a Confederate general until he was killed in the Battle of Pea Ridge. Early years McIntosh was born at Fort Brooke (Tampa), Florida Territory, while his father was on active duty in the Army. He served as a midshipman in the United States Navy during the Mexican–American War, and resigned in 1850. Thereafter, McIntosh was in business in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Civil War service At the outbreak of the Civil War, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 2nd U.S. Cavalry. He was promoted to first lieutenant in April 1862 and served in the Seven Days Battles and the Battle of Antietam, receiving promotion to major between the battles. The Seven Days Battles were a series of seven battles over seven days from June 25 to July 1, 1862, near Richmond, Virginia, during the American Civil War.
