Jobu Morita
is a former baseball utility player who played for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball from 2009 to 2011. Morita attended Yamanashi Gakuindai Fuzoku High School. Before playing professionally in Japan, Morita played for the Elmira Pioneers of the independent Northeast League in 2004, hitting .271 with 55 hits in 68 games. He returned to Elmira - now of the Can-Am Association - for 2005, and hit .263 with 65 hits in 71 games. During his time with Elmira, he played all over the diamond, but spent considerable time at second base and in the outfield. Overall, he hit .267 with 120 hits in 139 games. In baseball, a utility player is a player who typically does not have the offensive abilities to justify a regular starting role on the team but is capable of playing more than one defensive position. These players are able to give the various starters a rest, or replace a starter due to injury, or play late in a game to provide improved defense when their team is winning. Northeast League
The Northeast League was a professional independent baseball league that operated in the Northeastern United States from 1995 until 1998 and from 2003 until 2004. Between 1999 and 2002, the league was part of the Northern League after the two leagues agreed to merge. The Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, commonly known as the Can-Am League, was a professional, independent baseball league with teams in the Northeast United States and Eastern Canada, founded in 2005 as a reorganization of its predecessor, the Northeast League.
