Jim Shearer
Jim Shearer (born January 3, 1974) is a VJ and was host of the '' VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown'' and was the "music expert" on VH1's morning show '' Big Morning Buzz Live''. Currently, Shearer is a host on Sirius XM's VOLUME channel. Biography Shearer was hired by MTV in 2002 after catching the eye of the executive vice president of MTV with a homemade audition tape. From 2009 to 2014, Shearer was the host of the '' VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown''. He has also hosted the shows ''Advance Warning'', ''120 Minutes'', '' Subterranean'', '' Video Mods'', ''Summer Gig'', as well as other shows on both MTV and MTV2. In addition, Shearer hosted VH1's ''100 Greatest Artists of All Time'' and VH1's ''100 Greatest Videos of All Time''. A video jockey (abbreviated VJ or sometimes veejay) is an announcer or host who introduces music videos and live performances on commercial music television channels such as MTV, VH1, MuchMusic and Channel V. Origins The term "video jockey" comes from the term "disc jockey", "DJ" ("deejay") as used in radio. Music Television ( MTV) popularized the term in the 1980s (see List of MTV VJs). ''Video Mods'' is an animated television series that aired on MTV2 which made music videos for existing songs featuring video game characters and assets. It was created by Tony Shiff of Big Bear Entertainment in 2003. A pilot aired in December 2003, having been underwritten by Electronic Arts. It was a form of branded entertainment, as the pilot featured characters from their games ''SSX 3'', ''The Sims 2'' and '' Need for Speed: Most Wanted''. In 2004, MTV2 Head of Programming Alex Coletti commissioned four new episodes which aired that fall. The pilot and all 2004 episodes were produced and directed by Shiff, with Animation Director Kris Renkewitz. In 2005, additional episodes were animated by IBC Digital and Elektrashock.
